Well, we all know that music is the so called universal language of many. But, all of us are different, and we all have difference preferences in all things. And this includes music. So, what kind of music do you guys/gals in mylot listen to, and how does this impact your mood of the day or your whole life? I ask this because, I always read or hear people say "This song changed my life" Will a song really change your life or mood? Well, for starters I listen to mostly Rock music. But, I do listen to Hiphop, R&B, and other kinds of genres of music. So, let us talk about this thing?

Nice response! Yeah We tend to listen to music to soothe are moods. I tend to get bored with music that is repetitive though. I tend to catch the beat first and the lyrics. But, the lyrics should make sense. I do not like those songs that are lyrically bad.

Lately, I've been into Bruce Springsteen. I just went and tried out his music and bought The Essential Album. You know, it's the kind of thing that you have a hunch about, that you'll like it even though it might feel like a waste of money. The thing is, I liked it. But I knew that a 3-cd compilation isn't enough to show me what else "The Boss" has to offer, so I downloaded his whole discography. I was drowning in Bruce Springsteen. The other cool thing about all this is that he's been into folk music a lot. I love folk and I finding out about his latest Sessions Band recordings and concerts have a unique sound to them, which can be called "Big Band Folk." Another artist I fawn myself over is Sufjan Stevens (pronounced soof-YAWN). His music is very innovative and his lyrics are very captivating. Considered the darling of American Indie Music, one of his recordings, "Majesty Snowbird" is one of the widely distributed unreleased songs on the internet. Not to be mistaken though, my music tastes span more than just folk :)

I know how you feel about having the hunch and it turns out to be really awesome. I listen to a wide range of music, as long as it makes sense and it is well compose. I make music from time to time with my band. We come from different kind of genres of music, some are from metal, some are from RNB, and many more. But, we tend to blend in and make music that we think is lyrically good and of good composition.

hi there jacobus. yes, music can change your mood. i know that movies influence my life a lot. and one thing i appreciate in movies is soundtrack. the correct song for the correct mood. there are really good artists who have singles that really would be hits. there are songs that really speak your emotions when you just dont know how to say them. i guess, the kinds of songs that really speak for how i feel would be more on love songs. there are a lot of lovesongs that hit you bull's eye. rock is the next closest to my heart. apart from the hormones beating like the sticks on drums, a lot of rock songs are really good lyrically. for me, they are as good as poetry.

I've read all sorts of comments on Youtube about certain songs saving people's lives. There are songs that make people feel better. The Kinks were the kind of band that had something to say about almost every subject. They only wrote about 600 songs. If someone is depressed, then songs like Better Things and Days coud make things bright and shiny. Then, there are songs like Misfits, Rock and Roll Fantasy and A Little Bit of Emotion to tell the message that it's ok to be different. These songs definitely impact on people's moods and they don't have to be love songs.

I usually listen to soft, old music because it always makes me relax and inspire me keep on going. For me music is a gift from God because it always makes someone feel better and good. Songs were created from the button of ones heart, that's why it always inspire other people to live.

I like to listen to adult contemporary music, definitely not rock music. I guess it's because my life is hectic enough already, I'd want to listen to some music that's relaxing and with good lyrics! R&B comes second. And yes, I agree to some songs able to change one's life or mood. It always changes my moods: if the song's good, I'd be happy, and if it's not, then I'd be in a bad mood for quite a while haha..

Hahaha Good to hear, that people do think music would change the mood or life of a person who is listening to the music he/she is playing. I too listen to music to relax, but I mostly listen to rock music. So, it really shows people like different kinds of music.

I typically choose my music by the mood that I'm in. If I need to listen to something calm and relaxing I may listen to some classical music or something mellow like Dave Matthews Band. If I'm feeling happy and upbeat then I typically listen to hip hop/ top 40 type songs - basically whatever is on the radio! Those are the two types of music that I typically listen to.

That seems to be cool By the way I really like Dave Matthews band. But most of the time I tend to listen to Breaking Benjamins. They sound is cool and unique. But, for angry and frustrated times, I listen to metal music. I do not know why, but it sort of calms me down in a way.

I am from India. Very good and effective classical music is available. I am addicted to hear instrumental Hindustani music when ever I am on the net. This gives me an inner energy and good inspiration of +ve thoughts. I feel some good energy within myself.

That is good to hear. Most people who want to relax listen to classical or instrumental music. I also like hearing the saxophone too specially Kenny G's music.

That's true. Music can affect our moods. I like all kind of music; from pop to R&B, from blues to Hiphop. What interest me are the music and the lyrics. So sometimes I like a song because the music is good, sometimes I like a song because the lyric is portraying my moods. Then, I will find out who sings it and what is the song's title. Right now, I like to hear Chinese, Korean and Japanese songs, because I am learning those languages.
