Participation

Every user here hopes that there is full participation whenever a discussion is initiated but the sad news is that all of us belong to different time zones, choosing different times to come here, some for short durations and some may be for a couple of hours at a stretch. Some sleep for short hours and some would not trade their long hours of sleep for nothing in the world. (I am one of them!!)and so on. I consider these as impediments to have a steady flow of responses and comments as is happening with some discussions here. These are those who belong to the same time zones, being on line at the same time, etc. I have accepted these state of affairs although I would be extremely happy to have a marathon session whenever I initiate discussions. What are your views on this?

A marathon session? You received responses the other day and then went off to have your siesta! It makes no difference whether users are online or not when we post a discussion. Most have notifiers set to 'on' so that they know when a discussion is started. When a discussion receives any activity at all it appears in the 'recent' tab and can therefore receive responses for days, weeks, months and even years afterwards. I feel that there are other factors involved. If the topic is something general that many can contribute to then it is more likely to receive responses and if the user who starts it comments back to the responses, more users will respond. It make seem very tempting when a discussion receives many responses and it is definately fun BUT it also entails participation from the user who starts it - and no siesta that day!

p.s. Those who have responded ARE online right now. If you get back to them they might comment back to you and THEN your topic becomes a discussion and THEN it starts moving and THEN those that are not here now will start logging on and THEN you will start getting more responses and THEN you will have to start your marathon - unless of course you are asleep by then

Well we can enjoy it all by ourselves! I have computer problems. Last week there was no internet at work for a few days due to the provider having problems - but someone thought they could fix it by going to the control panel and messing about with stuff that they don't understand. The result is that we now have internet but the browser functions are all messed up - and I can't post from there At home my computer is on its last legs and next week I will be replacing it (and might be off for a couple of days) and offline stuff was more important yesterday so I wasn't at home much at all. You missed me too? awwwww

Too true mysD. I haven't seen you around much in the past few days. Missed you. This is a good time to have a marathon session, but where is the allknowing?? I thought he would enjoy this.

Yes of course you are correct. I often find when I wake up that there are a lot of responses that have gone on while I'm asleep. And I too won't give up my sleep

I just made a statement of facts. I cannot change the situation for me as I have my other activities but I do admire those marathon sessions and only wish my discussions could also be that packed.

Yes that true we might be from different time zone but given time we all can participate and contribute a lot to the discussion that are started here.
