How to apply for PhD study in English-spesking countries?

I'd like to apply for PhD study in Britan, American, Austrilia or other English-speaking countries.I study contrastive linguistics(Chinese-English).However,I'm not sure about the procedures and how to apply.Can you give me some advice or recommand some universities and professors,thanks a lot!

Is your age true? You are too old to apply a PhD study, or you want a physics post doctorate? If you really want a PhD, you must pass Tofel and GRE test first, and then sub. Then find a professor whose research topics interest you, send personal statement, your score in university, and score of your tofel, GRE and sub to him. Waiting for his reply. Maybe he will interview you, a phone interview or other type. If he is satisfied of with you, he will send you an offer. Tofel and GRE is for America and Canada, for Britain and Australia it should be IELTS.
