Can A Cell/Mobile Phone Survive After A Dip?

I did a stupid thing today, whilst talking on the phone to my operator, I was leaning on the sink, which was full of water for the washing up that I was about to do, and what happened???? Yep you guessed it... the phone slipped out of my hand, and fell into the sink full of water... when I quickly grabbed it out of the sink I listened and the guy was still there, but faint. In the end I could not hear a thing, and I took out my sim card and put it in a spare phone (good old spares!) I have separated the phone into pieces, and have placed it in the airing cupboard, so it will dry out. I am hoping that perhaps it will be ok, by the morning, what do you think, do you think it will survive? Have you ever dropped your phone in any water or something else? It was a Nokia phone that I dropped into the water, not a special one, I admit that it was cheap, but it was a good little phone if you know what I mean.

it was only a cheap one 2303 or something like that... it was only 20 quid i think, but.... saying that, after a couple of days of it being in the airing cupboard, I actually tried it out, and it is working perfect, so happy. I have just upgraded my phone though, so it wasn't going to be a problem, I just liked it.

The same thing happened to my Ericsson phone twice but until now it's still working fine. The first incident was I was walking when I accidentally dropped it in a pool of water. I used a blower to let it dry completely and as if nothing happened it works just fine. The second incident was when I was in the shower room of a hotel where we stayed for a seminar. I brought the cellphone inside the shower room since I was talking to my boyfriend then who is now my husband while I was preparing the water for a bathe. I accidentally dropped the cellphone in the tub. This time I was in doubt that it will still be fixed because it's the second time it has happened. However, I was wrong and since then I started loving Ericsson. I have two phones (1 is Nokia and the other one is Ericcson). However, if I'm going to get a new phone it will be another Ericsson. No more Nokia phones for me. I always have a problem with my Nokia phone and even the previous Nokia phones I had.

I have dropped my phone on my laundry. LOL. I was doing my laundry, so I had soap in my hands, but someone texted and I just needed to reply, so while replying the phone slipped into the soapy water. I got it out as fast as I can, opened it and blasted a hair dryer to it. Thank goodness after 30 minutes of drying it out, it still worked, although I needed to open and close the phone a couple of times because it had a hard time reading my sim card. But in the end it still worked, and until now it's still working.

Moisture is what kills a cell phone. If you can save your cell phone before there is too much water daamage, you have a good chsance of salvaging your phone.

some cellphones do, it actually depends on the quality and durability of the phone. but for camera, colored and touch phones, i don't think they can survive a dip without a scratch. they are more vulnerable to damages and very fragile. :) it all depends on what kind of phone you have. :)

Hi Rosie, I have had my son as a toddler grab my phone and drop it in the bath, also a Nokia, and onceit had dried out it did survive. I hope yours does. Huggles. Ellie :D

I think that most phones are not likely to survive these water accidents. I have also had experience with getting my phone dipped with water. It was Nokia 3310, good old and durable phone, but it got poured with water and did not survive that. I think that battery created a short circuit with other electronic parts and all the stuff got burned out. Even if you manage to dry it out well, the electronics may already be messed up. So, sorry, I don't think it will make it.

when your phone accidentally gets wet, immediately turn it off to avoid short circuit and airdry it, make sure it is completely dry before turning it on again. my friends phone was dropped in the water for several times and its still working well.

I once puked in sleep over my phone(i was drunk) and when i woke up i realized it and i took out the battery and i actually showered the whole thing after taking it apart. That was 3 years ago and have the same phone k750i now. So yeah there's a chance it will work. You just have to take out the battery emidietly and dry it. If the other components are wiped and dried it should work.

Hi rosie, I know what you mean. Done that twice. First time was about 7 years ago - dropped it in swimming pool. That was Nokia 3300. And it survived. Dried the phone and it was fine. The second time, however, was 2 years ago. That was Sony Ericsson K790. That didn't survive. It worked for about a week, slowly something stopped working one by one. Gave it to the service center and they spoilt it even further. I don't think they make phones like they used to.

just make sure you dry it out immediately... and then cross your fingers and hope it will survive..

I did a similar thing. I stuck my phone in my sweatshirt pocket and dashed out of my car into the pouring rain to get the mail. As I was running back to my car, my phone fell out of my pocket and into a puddle. Go figure. It works okay now, but it doesn't work as well as it did. It disconnects calls randomly and the screen is all blurry. But hey, it works! My plan ends on the 21st of this month anyway.

Yes once I accidentally washed my env2 in the washer and only found it once it had been through the washer and dryer. The best thing to do when this happens would be NOT to turn it on. You should either leave the phone in a sunny spot for a few days and or put the phone in a bowl of rice as this also soak up any excess water in the phone.
