avoiding pesticides

Recent studies have shown that some of our fruits and vegatables retain these poisons no matter how much you wash them. Apples and potatoes need to be skinned before eating? I have some questions about this, with apples we know the skins contain the most nutriants so are they worth all the work to skin them? How about potatoes, I love to use new red potatoes and I have always cook them with their skins on and l leave most of those skins on when making potatoe salad. Can I still cook them with their skins on and then take them off for the potatoe salad? Will this be safe? Does anyone know these answers?

This is why I buy organic as much as I can, though they do make a veggie wash that (supposedly) works pretty well to get all the nasty stuff off without you losing hte peel.

The study I was referring to said the pesticides got past the skin on some fruits and vegies.

I always wash ALL my veggies. I use dishwashing soap to wash them. I do the same for apples and then take the skin off. Same for potatoes. If you cook them with the skin, whatever pesticide is on the skin will get in the water and then in the potato. So you need to skin it before cooking it. I know its not as good but unless you buy organic veggies, then you need to wash and take the skin off. We have a food show and they say that if you're to eat anything leafy, since you cant peel its best to eat organic then. Yes there are residues, even after you peel or wash.

Yes I agree with everybody that to be safe from poisons in fruits and veggies, buy organic. Even though organic products are more expensive than the normal we can buy in the market, but sure enough, you are safe, your health is secured and rest assured you will not get ill as days pass by.

Hi Savypat, I wish I knew the answer to thisone, I do always make sure I wash apples and potatoes but I rearely peel them as I love jacket potatoes. I think the only sure way is to buy organic which are a lot more expensive but at least won't contain poisons. Huggles. Ellie :D

For me, I don't typically have to deal with these issues as while I'm not one of the people that is always buying organic foods, when it comes to the produce that I buy, I do try to buy all of my fresh produce organic. The reason that I've made this decision is because of the fact that there aren't pesticides used in the growing of this produce and I'm still able to enjoy things the way that I've always enjoyed them.
