What type of Employee are you - Chatting while working or a Silent Worker - ?

Good day to all. I just noticed that some Employees / Workers cannot work if they keep their mouth shut. What I mean is, a lot of workers I observed in our office are always chatting. Wherein, two of my colleagues (co-workers) keep on chatting while doing their duty. I wonder if they can still concentrate on what they are doing. As for me, its quite hard to do a multi-tasking role especially if you need a lot of focusing in one area of your task, hence, in this particular issue, I think its more difficult if you are just chatting while working. In this instance, the consequence maybe, you will have a 50 percent inaccurate job input and output.

I was never the chatty employee unless my job required it. I was always more of a silent worker. I liked performing job duties well. I could accomplish more on my own. Being chatty and social doesn't always get the job done.

I think I am belong to the later type. I am always very focused when I am studying or doing a job. I think only in this way, I can finish my study or my work quickly and efficiently. And I also think if the boss see me chatting while working, s/he is going to have a bad impression on me.

You are absolutely right. And in addition, if you are finishing your work quickly and efficiently, eventually, these will contribute to your job promotion in the future. Continue what you have started, to work quickly and efficiently, who knows, a great reward will come along the way.

I can be a chatterbox only if the task at hand does not entail a 100% concentration. There are tasks that I could never accomplish when I'm talking so when I have grown silent, my colleagues usually gets the hint and they stop talking to me.

I like to work alone because I want to get the work done and do a great job. Quality and Quantity. I make mistakes when I don't center on what I'm doing. And also, when I'm around people, I like to chat while I work but as I said, my work performance goes down unless we're working cooperatively. Sometimes telling jokes, gossiping, etc., helps us get over the stress.

Well, you have a point. That, there are times, we need to tell and listen to some jokes for us to relieve from the stress. However, as for me, gossiping is not a healthy way to get over stress. Sometimes, it promotes misunderstanding.

if i am working i like to focus on what i am doing so i don't usually talk. it's annoying when someone comes and starts chatting. hey, can't you see i'm busy? it's hard to concentrate when someone is blabbering away.

You are absolutely right. It is annoying if you happen to hear somebody chatting while you are so busy. For me, they dont know how to show respect.

Well that is a good topic. I myself is a combination of both of these two types. But usually i like to do work silently but i enjoy my works when i talk with my boy friend in chatting. If you enjoy your work then you can solve any problems.

It depends on what work or task I am doing. I can sometimes chat while working but when I am analyzing data, then I would need concentration and a quiet atmosphere.

Hi, airshelia. When I used to work outside of the home, I preferred to be a silent worker. I found out that I can get a lot done when I am silent. I can concentrate more better. If I talk, I may mess something up or make a terrible mistake. I don't want to do that.

I am really quiet at work, some of my officemates tells me that I should lighten up. LOL. But I'm not really that serious, I just look like I am. I don't talk much, but I do chat with my teammates online. But if I'm really busy, then I just sit in my area, do my work while listening to some music, cause it really alleviates the stress in my work.

I can be both. But your right, it's more of a multitasking thing, in which I'm good at but there are specific time or work which I preferred not to be disturbed. So i keep my self quiet. As per inaccurate job, well not that much percentage for me. maybe 20% of possible mistake but not that high. Coz in multitasking, you switches your focus and use your skills to do so. It just really depend on how good you are in doing so

hi aira, most of the times i'm a silent worker to help me more focus on things i have been doing, but if it is possible to chat, then i'll chat,if there's nothing more things to do,then i'll chat or just ask something about work related issues, there's no problem with that,i think! we all have been busy at our work sometimes but we also need to take time to chat for a while cause being silent makes you feel bored or worse, makes your breath soooo bad! have fun while working, enjoy yourself and your work!

I am a silent worker unless I need to talk to do my job. Usually if I try to talk and do my job at the same time I end up getting sidetracked. Although if work is slow I may become chatty.

well i like to talk a lot and i am usually chatty while working but if the seriousness of the work was mentioned to me then i am down to earth sort of person. Nothing's wrong with a good chat but one should see to it that it doesn't become too lengthy. Some people even text themselves while sitting in cubicles opposite to one other which is seriously ....

When i am still working before I do experience the typical noisy fellow workers. They would often talk about their girlfriends and their intimate escapades. Even do I don't join their chatting I can't help but overheard some of their topics and most of the time I will find myself with a smile in my face. But it really puzzled me because even if they chat from time to time they still got their work done. Maybe the reason they chat is because they tried to chase away the boredom or sleepiness that they are feeling. Or it might be effective to make more out of your job if you sometimes have to break your silence and share some smile and laughter with your co-workers.

I am more of a silent worker. I don't like surrounding myself with noise when I am working. It just distracts me. That is why I get annoyed when there are people chatting around me when I am doing something at work. I agree, when distracted, I make a few mistakes while doing my work.

having someone to talk to at work can get me going. chatting most of the time is i think would depend on the gravity of the work. if it takes a lot of reading or comprehension, i dont think i can be productive in that sense if i make unnecessary chatting. oh well, that's why a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon are given aside form the lunch break. an opportunity to still have a social life, i guess. :)

I really can't work while chatting so if I need to chat with someone, I stop for a while. It's easier and I'm more confident that I did my work right when I'm focused. On days that I am really busy, I even request my colleagues to send a calendar should they wish to discuss things with me so that I don't get interrupted with my current task. Because of this work attitude, I easily get pissed off when I see other people chatting with each, instead of assisting their customers.

I chat when the work is not that heavy. We only do emails and cut paste the template.. how hard could that be?
