Do you pay attention to safety instructions in planes?

Every time I fly, the same routines occur. First that pulling and hurrying to our seats, putting as much as possible away because seats are smaller every minute. When I´m finally seated (and tired), the flight attendants start all those movements while there´s a voice you hardly understand. I tried many times to understand where the doors were, what kind of masks would fall. Now I don´t pay any attention. I will either be wise in case of danger or be paralized (in which case I´ll forget those instructions). So I just relax and yawn, preparing myself for some boring hours. How do you feel about this? Do you listen and remember the instructions? Do you think it´s worth it? Will it help us in case of out plane falling? Share.

I do. I like watching grown women or men do the funny arm thing. Well, that's true, I like watching them, and sometimes I tried to note if they are different from my last flight. My interest has nothing to do with safety. I figured, God forbid, if we ever crash, I'm going to die anyway. What's the chance of survival in a plane crash? Next to Nil. I just love the kind of dance. hehehe

Thats what I meant. No chances to stay alive after being in a plane crash. Well, maybe there´s an infinitesimal posibility. But I don´t believe in miracles. I can tell you that there are better dances than that one though.

Hello, marguicha! Congratulations on your 5000th post, that's really amazing! I used to pay attention to it, but after flying two times, I can nealy remember all of it, and I started ignoring it. Generally speaking, when an air crash happens, what you can do yourself is very limited, most of the result depends on the pilot's skill.

Thanks! I didn´t know myself how I arrived to the 5000 post. One starts to talk here and suddenly you´re not a newbie anymore I don´t even like to think of a plane crash. There are not many chances of survival.

I've flown since I was a child, and granted I don't fly much now, but no, I really don't listen anymore, I know what to do - I would probably not be able to open the doors, so I don't sit on that row, but I think I can do the masks.

I suppose we could do the mask thing, if its just putting them. But I wonder if it would help any.

On Thursday I flew from London to Vancouver on a plane. I looked at the screen showing the safety information. I think if the plane had problem then it would all be useful information to know. When the plane was about to land at Vancouver Airport it flew low as if it might land in the sea. I was so grateful to have it land at the airport. There have been some air crashes lately and I am happy to have had a safe flight over to Canada.

I m so glad you arrived safely! How was the flight for the kids? Because you went with them, right? Tell me all about it. I don´t see the information because I just hope nothing will happen. Even though I think more people die from car accidents that flying, I feel that if Im in a plane accident I will not survive. But why think of that! Lets be happy!

i guess i did when i experienced riding planes until the third or forth flights. but since i have many experiences now, i really do not listen to them anymore. i could be worth listening i guess, if only we are first time fliers.

Hey marguicha! Congratz on your 5000th post, pretty amazing thing. Anyway I believe that the airplane safety instructions are really pointless to listen to. If it is your first time flying then I definitely suggest reading the instructions or watching the video. Other wise its usually the same old emergency evacuation methods. Besides the chances of a crash or accident are really low now days, so if you know the basic steps you should be fine.

I have flown many times so I don´t mind them too much. I do help people near me when they are terrified by planes though.

I pay attention to where the exits are. Other than that, the instructions are exactly the same on every plane I have ever been on, so I tune the whole thing out...

I have flown a lot of times, and I do certainly try to pay attention to the safety instructions in planes. I feel that it's probably safer to pay attention to them and take them into consideration.

Does anyone listen to those instructions? I don’t usually because a lot of the time it’s hard to hear anyway so I spend the time checking out what the flight attendant is wearing etc which is not really good but…The way I see it, in case of a crash, aside from the chances of survival being quite minimal I figure the oxygen ‘thingy’ will come down and we are to use it first on ourselves and then on our children so we’re okay to can help them and then there is something about putting our head on our knees or something…Come to think of it, in the event of a crash I would probably be a goner…

Dear marguicha, Its very important to follow not only the safety instruction, even one should stand up or even practice all the demonstration that are been given to the passenger by the flight attendants, It comes very handy when we are in an emergency situation, remember the 26/11 and we always must pray to God and be thankful as well. Its not only the Terrorist even the Government of respective countries are playing with we innocents people,We are being the subject, and are sandwiched by both of these two parties. Over here I want to relate one incident which occurred at the Dum-Dum Airport,as per those silly instruction by the flight attendants, a safety baggage was provided to each passenger.....in case.....now at this juncture the plane landed safely but one of the passenger carried those suits along with him, till the authority apprehended him with those...... So its the case of not following the safety instruction and the language in which it was been spoken were not understood by many on this part of the World.

I fly planes a lot; so by now, I know the drill and don't really pay attention to the safety video. It's a long and boring video (even more so when travelling to a foreign country; in which then, they provide English and the second language translations). Anyway, it's not very likely that something will happen to the plane (statistically, it is safer to travel by plane than it is by car, after all). But, in case something does happen, you can just follow what everyone else is doing or ask a flight attendant to help you. So, it's not that much of a big deal.

I do when I have not flown for awhile. Just a quick refresher for my own safety.

I pay attention because there might be airline companies using different airplanes. And the anatomy of the airplane is different especially where the emergency exits are located. I think it's SOP for airline companies to give safety instructions before taking off to lessen the legal obligations once an accident will occur.
