Most of my family (male and female) are now in or have been in the military. I myself have a blood disorder that kept me out but other wise I would have been right there with them. Not only is it an experience in our country (USA) it is also a good way to go to school (everyone from my family, who is or was in has at least one degree if not more) as well as benefits for retirement and what not. Those who are lifers are still in. Now it is not easy and you may have to go to war and the lasting effects can be both mental and physical. We have people who where WWII vets, Vietnam vets as well as more recent Bosnia vets also two in Iraq and three in Afghanistan as I write. We are proud of these woman (as they are all woman at them moment who are still in) as well as those who are retired.

Both my son in laws are career. One Army and one Air Force. Its been a very good life for both of them even though they have both been included in conflicts....the longer you are in...the better things get.
