Why this happens with me?

Hi all! My office is on the fifth floor. In the morning time, whenever I need to go up from the basement (read minus one floor) the elevator's indicator would show that it is on 5th floor and I wait patiently for elevator to come down. In the evenings, when I am in hurry to rush my home, and I need to go down, the lights of elevator would indicate that either it is on the ground floor (read zero) or on minus one, again I wait patiently for it to come. I am a bit perplexed why the elevator cannot be on the right floor, at the right time . Does it happen with you too? Your observations please. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Try using the steps, Deepak. I almost never use an elevator. I don't like them since i got stuck in one. TATA.

hi sabh! Yours is a very practical suggestion and I follow it many a times. But sometimes, due to some urgency, elevators is required to be used. Thanks for your advice.

Well, if it is that great emergency, then you'll just have to wait, then.

I think it is very common thing Deepak--for the pen that we pick in a hurry not to write, for the particular thing that we search not to be found[if we are searching for a particular paper in a sheaf of papers, we would lay hands on all the others except what we want] many buses except what we are looking for would pass by us in a bus stand. This would be a frequent occurrence. I would suggest you beat this by going to the lift 5 minutes earlier or later. If you meantally prepare yourself that your lift would arrive after 5 minutes[like the scheduled departure and arrival of a train ], then you will be pleasantly surprised if it arrives earlier.

And if there are many offices in th e building , the likelihood of the lift being constantly in use is very high.Thsi is why this happens and many other people in the same building may share your view.

I am impressed with your observations - it occurs many a times that pen, we want to use does not work or the pencil, just won't write anything. And many a times, the particular document which we are searching won't surface and will get lost. I appreciate your suggestion that I should be there 5 minutes earlier than my scheduled departure so that I could get the desired results. Your second observation is also correct that there are many Departments in the building (which come under our Organisation) and elevators remains constantly in use) (so much and so some people are so lazy that even for going from Ground floor to first floor, they use the elevator.........lol!).

It's the same concept of when you are late, all the traffic lights turn red. It is called the Law of Attraction. If you keep thinking that this will continue to happen to you, it will. But if you stop thinking about it or better still, think that the elevator is going to be on the right floor every time you use it, it will. All the best!

Hi sydney! Australia! I did not know that 'law of attraction' works, when we want traffic lights to be green and they are found red or we wanting a lift on the same floor, where we are and the lift will ditch us. I will follow your suggestion and stop thinking about the lift, if I could.

Hi dpk! Great to see you, as always dear friend! I would think that of all the people on the Lot that you would already know the answer to this perplexing question! The elevator is NEVER where you want it to be! It is always the opposite! I have found this to be true no matter how many times I have had to ride in them. If you need to go up they are all the way down and if you need to go down they are on the top floor! You have proved the theory that it isn't just me who has this problem!

Hi Opal26! I am delighted to hear that you and I face the same experience, while using the elevators and you found my post interesting, as it narrates your experiences also. I always wish that whenever I approach the elevator, I should find it waiting for me, on the same floor, so that I could save my previous time, however, it remains a wishful thinking and does not materialize. (sigh) PS - am still waiting for you PM, through which you promised to send me your email ID? Deepak

I used to work in a high rise building and had the same problem. A great deal of patience was required when I used to come in or go home but the most frustrating was during the day when I used to have to go to other floors as part of my job. I would like to know just how many hours I spent waiting for an elevator which was never on the right floor at the right time, ever! I suppose I could have used the stairs but I had to go from floor 11 to floor 44 at times!

Hi Paula! You are me appear to be on the same boat, as you used to face the similar problems, which I face and we both always wish that the elevators be waiting for us at the same floor, where we are, however, they continue to dodge us, in the process, wasting our precious time. Thanks for sharing.

LOL deepak, that is too much to expect in a public building where the lift is catering to many offices and people. I have always had this experience and I cannot recall a single instance when the lift has been handy and I could quickly get in and go wherever I want, instead I keep waiting for a long time...all the best deepak, have a nice weekend

Kiran! You are right that it is too much to expect, when the lift is used by many in the office, but there is nothing wrong in wishing.......is not it? I always wish that I should find the lift waiting for me, at the same floor, where I am, however practically, it does not happen. Have a nice weekend to you too!

Not all the time...but it happens to me often. I stay on the 6th floor...and most often than not...the elevator is on the Ground floor when I need to go down...and on the 7th floor when I need to go up. There are to lifts but only one is operational to save on electricity. But I have to admit this 'problem' arises often when I need to go down...that's when I am rushing somewhere....usually I don't mind waiting a bit when I am coming back home...but at that time...the lift is almost always on the Ground floor..lol

Hi SV! I can conclude from your response, that you face more or less similar problems, which I face. You these lifts are very smart, when you are ready to wait, while going up, they are available and you can go to your 6th floor house. Elevators are not available, when we need them in urgency. I always wish that when I reach near the elevator, it should either be at the same floor, where I am, or at least approaching the same floor, where I am waiting. But it remains a wishful thinking only. (deep sigh).

Hi dpk, as what I have learned from my experience, the elevator usually would stop at the floor where the last user or users stepping out. Let say I'm the only passenger in the elevator and after I have reached my destination. The empty elevator with door closed would stop at the same floor I supposed. It would go up or down depending on whether the following user pressing the up or down button. That's why sometimes we are "fortunate" that we could go in the elevator straight away and no need to wait. I observe this from using the elevator frequently when spending holiday in the 23 floors tall apartment where my son lives. I do use the 28 floors building elevator often situated in a hilltop resort where my husband likes to go for vacation several times a year. It's fun to share with you on this interesting topic I hope my description doesn't make you blurred... Take care and have a nice day

Hi ikbooi! It is true that elevator stops at the last floor (mine is the last floor in my office) and then it would go down, if someone presses the button. My personal experience tells me that most of the time, we are not fortunate, as we do not find the elevator waiting for us on the same floor. Have a nice day!

Hi sarah! I wrote this post in my office and many a times, when am in hurry, the elevators are found to be hanging on some other floor and I am required to wait, many a times. I wish they could be on the same floor, when I need them (but it appears that it would remain a wishful thinking only)

dpk since you are in a large building and there must be a lot of other people who use the elevator why do you assume it will always'be on the floor you need it on, as all the other people also must go to work in the morning and also leave for home in the afternoon. So someone will have to wait.I can but imagine that for each person who is patiently waiting there is somone already going up or coming down. I think nowhere is it written that the elevator must be on your floor just when you need it and on the bottom floor in the morning just when you need it. You are just one of all the people in the building. of course it has happened to me, but whats a lot more maddenting to me is when I will be late to a Dr's appt. and I am just ready to step on the elevator and the people do not even try to make room for me. So wait and am five minutes late because people were to rude to make room for one more. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hi Hately! You are very correct that I often forget that the lifts are meant for others also and the others also use is at the same time, when I wish to go up or down. It is very true that it is written nowhere that elevator must be on the same floor, where I am, however, there is nothing wrong in me thinking and wishing that why I and elevators cannot be at the same floor, when I need to use a elevator.

Hi dpk! Ha ha - I think the same too!! Last year when I was pregnant, I had a condition in which I had to go to the doctors office all the time. I was always late in getting to the hospital . . . getting to the actual location, finding parking which was always packed, and walking over to the office. The office was located on the third floor . . . and I ALWAYS had to wait for the elevator on top of being late as it was. It may have been quicker to go walk up the stairs (but you know how that goes). Elevators must do it on purpose - hee hee. And for some reason elevators ARE on the right floor at the right time when you are there are your leisure, right??

Thanks much2say for telling me that you faced/face the similar experiences. I agree with you that elevators are available, when we are at our leisure and when we are in a hurry, they would be available on some other floor (deep sigh).

I haven't experience something as weird as this. Well, just maybe, that elevator is having some troubles and it need some fix immediately. Or... just maybe, there is something that is disturbing the atmosphere in that elevator. A lost spirit perhaps. I hope that you will not get scared. It was just an assumption of my wild imagination.

It is not weird, it happens with many of us. And also elevator(s)in my office are working perfectly fine. Spirits feel afraid of me, so they dare not come near to me.
