On my 30th birthday I woke to the sounds of my four closest friends singing “Happy Birthday” outside my bedroom window. They told me to get up and get dressed; they were taking me to breakfast. Now, I’m a girl who likes to dress up, and going out to eat is definitely a chance to dress up. So, I picked out a cute, little, semi-short piece, just right for a birthday brunch. When I joined them in the kitchen their facial expressions confused me; that is until I went outside. They were driving a pick-up truck with a lawn chair in the bed. That was to be my “throne” on the way to the restaurant. Attached to the bumper was a sign that said I was “Dirty Thirty.” Horror of horrors! We took off driving, and the chair wasn’t tethered to anything; I slid right down the bed, and bumped into the back gate, which thankfully, was locked. Of course the biggest laugh came from trying to keep that cute dress from blowing up in my face and exposing, well, you know. After breakfast, I thought they’d had their fun with me, but no. Next stop was the car wash! Yikes! I guess they were really my friends after all, because they turned around. Scared me to death. I never forgot the experience, twenty three years later. Yes, that makes me fifty-three. You don’t have to count. Your turn.

Nothing as dramatic as that...lol But my best one I would have to say was my last birthday (34th). My parents who live in another continent decided to surprise me and turned up in the morning. I was told to expect one of their family friends as guests for a day or two. Another batch of guests had just left that morning and I was busy cooking for the next set of guests (who I was expecting...if I was expecting my parents I wouldn't have bothered cooking..lol). My parents first surprised my sister (who lives in another state)...had booked her tickets to fly to my city.....and all 3 of them flew in half an hour of each other and came home together!! After quite a few years of my birthday being just another day....it was such a big surprise that I started crying when I saw them. I was too overwhelmed to speak!

Sviswan, Now I'm feeling teary-eyed. I feel so happy, just knowing your story. Your family sounds wonderful. Too bad you cooked, though.

lol....no..no...mom gave me a compliment ...and said she was now convinced that I could make a feast!! She's very particular and thought all this while that I just about managed with the cooking...ha ha. So, that turned out to be a good thing too:)

anawar this happened on my thirty second birthday I was 8 months pregnant and clumsy as a cow and on top of it all had a very sore throat. But my mom and my sister insisted they take me out to a very nice restaurant for dinner. My hubby was concerned but he went along with it. We did have a wonderful dinner full of all the things I loved' right down to a German chocolate cake. We all talked about my birthday and about the new baby I was going to have. my hubby and my mom were digging up money to pay for that wonderful meal when the cashier said, it is all paid for. I asked who did that, she smiled, Mr. Keen, he owns this restaurant and he wanted to give you a free dinner then she handed me fifty dollars in an envelope. A tall , grey haired man, very handsome and probably fifty waved to us and left quickly out the back door. I opened that envelope and almost collapsed,. fifty dollars and all for me. the cashier admitted the tall grey haired man who left was the owner. I never got to t hank him for that wonderful surprise.
