How do you feel when you are packing to move?

Like the question said, how do you feel when and while you are packing? I am packing right now with the music blaring loudly on my laptop and cleaning out some garbage. I am moving all my stuff because I am transferring to another campus on another continent. Its exciting, a bit scared though. Anyway, I found all this stuff buried around my room. I felt nostalgic, suddenly finding all these things, three years in this place and I've accumulated a lot of stuff, I mean a lot. A lot of these things have memories attached to them and I found myself smiling as I look through my college magazine and seeing pictures of my friends and me Throwing all these things were a bit painful and I was reluctant to do so. Until of course I realized all this stuff were useless, old and I can't possibly bring all this back with me because my hometown is 2 hour flight away. How bout your guys, how do you feel while you are packing?

I usually hate it to begin with. I usually feel like packing to move is a rather bittersweet moment. I mean, you've been at a location for god knows how long and you've made a lot of memories there. So I mean, of course you're going to end up feeling nostalgic. I mean I do regardless of where I've lived the past couple of years before I end up moving. But for the most part I truly hate packing.

I totally agree with you. There are just too many memories attached to this place. I just hate to leave it but I can't do anything about it. Eventhough I really want to stay but I know I can't. Packing brings back old memories and I find myself reminiscing about old times with all my friends here.

All my life or may I say for the past 50 years or so, we have been changing residence for something like eleven times or more for one reason or another. And it seemed that every time we moved for another place I always get to be the one to do the packing and crating all our things. Yes, I do agree and I must say that each occasion is sad, nostalgic and depressing. One get to dig again and again into old things and pictures that make one reminisce and recall happy or sad memories. But then that is what life is all about: the past, the present and what the future brings. We all have to move on...right?

Yea, you're right. We all have to move on sooner or later. There is no use being afraid of change. It just feels so good remembering all the good times I had staying in this place. I would have to make new friends and familiarize myself with a whole new place. I guess its a bit exciting.

Hi Catalyser, It's a lot of work but usually when I move it is an exciting change and so it is worth all the work. Each time I move, I get rid of more and more stuff it seems. I do have a tendency to hang on to things for sentimental reasons. When I move, I always get rid of a lot of those things. I don't need them. They take up space and the memories are stored in my heart. I don't really need the physical reminder. Still, I know that pull in your gut when you do toss it in the trash.

we've had to move several times before and i really hated the packing and unpacking that needed to be done. it's really amazing how much stuff one can accumulate within a short span of time. when you really analyze it, there's so much stuff you can do without. when we had to go to another country we left a lot of our things behind. when we were returning home we brought a lot of things with us but these remained in boxes up to a year after we got back. i really do not want to do anymore major moves.

believe it or now, I have been moving in this country- Australia for 9 times since I came in 2 years ago, I feel nothing when I pack my stuff due to the frequency of moving. I wish I could settle down this time and never move again, as packing is always hard as I have too much stuff to pack!

I didn't have experienced shifting from one place to another. Just I had some business trips and while packing for them, I will be careful to not miss anything which I will need in the trip. I will ask for some shopping list from the place where I go and nothing special.

I will be starting to pack hopefully soon to move to Puerto Rico. When packing I worry about things getting damage or lost in the move. I worry because I like it to be all organized. Once moved I don't want to go around trying to find things. Good luck in your move.

I enjoy packing to move. There is just a good feeling to know you are making a big change in your life. I don't enjoy unpacking as much. I don't always know right away where I want to put things.

Since I go to university away from home, I have had to move twice (from student halls into a flat and from that flat into another flat) and I really, really hated it. It's tedious, boring and exhausting. I hate throwing things away so I have lots of things that I don't use that I have to throw away eventually. I feel no excitement at all about packing to move.
