Ghana, the only Africa state left in the tournament for the last 16 has just knocked out USA 2-1 after extra time to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 19th FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It was truly an exciting match which was really end to end, nerve wrecking performance where USA as usual was behind by a goal in the first half after 5 minutes. The Ghanaians were superb and they really dominated the game right from the kickoff. USA only managed to equalize through a dubious penalty awarded to a challenge on Dempsey. Which Donovan scored from the spot, bringing the match to extra time. Everyone was already anticipating the match going into the penalty shootout until a sheer brilliance from their forward Gyan scoring from a counterattack in the 93 minute of extra time. From then on, USA just could not find the net right till the final whistle for extra time and with this win, they will be playing against Uruguay for the quarterfinals. Good job, Ghana!! karen1969, The Ghanians really played their hearts out and really deserve to win. However, like life it was not an easy victory as their opponents - USA nearly managed to come from behind. Coach Bradley has really showed himself to be a shrewd tactician who had played his substitutions well indeed and nearly brought victory for the US. However, we must give the Ghanians for their gutsy persistence and undying spirit. I hope that they will salvage some pride for Africa and go far for this tournament.

As this world cup took place in Africa, it was a major opportunity for the African teams to rock the other teams. But unfortunately most of the African teams were knocked out of the tournament in the very first round!! Ghana survived!! Ghana also brilliantly fought in the quarter finals after winning the pre-quarter. But they were knocked out at last in a miserable manner!! They really played well and deserved to win the match too. But some circumstances didn't let them go to the semi final. Best of Luck for the next time!!!!!!!

Wow that is so great!!! I'm a Ghanaian and I watched the match on television. i watched every second of it. And I was so glad the way the Black Stars of Ghana played. They seemed to be on fire. I am really really proud of them. This makes them amongst the only three African countries ever to have reached the quarter finals at the world cup. I am truly proud of them. U.S.A were also good i must confess but I guess Ghana was just better. That is why Ghana won at the end.

Stotinka5, Understand your sentiments for the South Koreans who just simply ran out of luck here. Anyway, I am sure it will be interesting to see the outcome when your neighbor Slovakia play against Holland and hope that they can produce another upset in the tournament by knocking out Holland. I can see that they are getting the hang of the tournament and are coming up quite well.
