i'm fine with using a free antivirus, microsoft essential does the job will, without spending another hard earned money to some fancy and expensive anti-virus.. combine with responsible surfing, know what territories you are in, avoid downloading unknown files and always scan and update your pc and other removable device and you are good to go..

Don't ever trust the free ones. We are already using the paid ones, and sometimes we still get in trouble. So, what about the free antivirus? How much is the degree of your protection? If the paid ones sometimes falter, then how much is a free one? It is very impossible to go online and not tread on virus-infection prone areas. Even if you avoid contracting a virus, you can never avoid spyware and other malwares with your free program. Like me, I am very careful in visiting sites. But you know, even if I stay static online, never visiting a website, I can see in my Symantec Endpoint Protection's notification panel down the bottom of the window how it is blocking malicious traffic coming to my computer from all sides of the Internet. So you see, sometimes you never know what's the invisible things that are happening in your PC without the aid of expert antivirus program like SEP. Don't trust free antivirus saying "You're computer is okay and well protected". Go extra mile in protecting your PC!

Ha, I use BitDefender too, but if you can't afford that I used to use NOD32, it's fast and relatively cheap. I would avoid anti-viruses like Norton and AVG, big ones that use a lot of resources and clog up the system.

lol! Not From my test. Bitdefender misses loads of stuff. And I test my anti-viruses by actually downloading viruses/trojans on purpose. and bitdefender by far had the worse detection rate by my testing. Yet it did run smoothly. and uninstalled with ease. :D You'd be much better of using one these free anti-viruses. Avast,Avira,or Kaspersky,

I get a bitdefender file from the computer of my friend then i transferred the file to our computer. I wanted to replace the Avira with bitdefender but was saddened to find out I could not determine from the files I got which one will install the antivirus. I only had limited time that night and our internet connection was acting slow..(so I had difficulty downloading bitdefender). We don't have that spare money in the bank to purchase antivirus. We just usually look for trial version. I just thought that I can still find a way to use the bitdefender becuase our computer were attacked by a lot of virus even with the presence of the avira.

i'm using Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0. The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb's. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses . To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself . http://freevirusprotection-spywaremalwar…

BitDefender is certainly a good antivirus, as it passes almost all the VB100 criteria. You can choose the best suitable software for your personal needs. I believe any antivirus capable of passing the VB100 test is a good software to have. If you need total security, then ones like BitDefender is a good choice. I use Rising, although its performance can't really compare that of BitDefender's, it serves my needs well over the years. So there is a software for everyone, depending on your needs, choose the ones that suits you the best.

Hello dinesh_kmhss! I'm using avast anti virus pro and i'm happy with it. For me all anti virus is good as long it is always updated but there is also anti virus that eats a lot of memory and makes your computer to run very slow like McAfee, Norton, PC-cillin and many more but they are really good anti virus program.
