Do you think technology should be used to help referees be right?

Consider the matches that changed totally due to a referees mistakes, the dishonest players who act fouls, etc. Why do you think Fifa hasn't applied technology when many other sports have done it.

Yeah !! Technology can be provided to Referees to Assist him situations when he isn't sure of what to do !! But technology should be limited to that and not beyond . It should only supplement Referee in his job and not take over his job. After all Football is a Human Game , and There should be definitely a Human Touch . Maybe a few drops of technology can be added to it to make it more flavored and interesting !!

Iam not saying that technology on the whole should not be used . All iam trying to express is that Technology should only be used as a supplement and not the medicine. All sports that u say also use technology , but not always !! . In tennis and Cricket u are allowed only a certain number of appeals and in swimming Technology is used only to determine the winner in case of a close contest and i can't comment on how it is used in rugby as it don't follow it closely !! All i say is that U need the definitve human touch with a bit of Assistance from technology . Fully Agree to your view that FIFA is way back among other sports in getting this assistance implemented. Thanks for your comment. :)

I have mixed feeling for this. One side, I would like technology to help weed out the cheats like Ronaldo who fell at the slightest touch or even "no touch". But on the other side, I would miss the controversial decision that makes the game a bit more exciting and can stir the emotions.

Fair play does not exist and neither does the better team always win. While I am split between technology, I do hope FIFA will implement two more referees, each behind the goal mouth. That will address issues of diving as well as decision like the Lampard's goal. I say, keep the human touch in place and kick the technology away.

If you are talking of recent FIFA Football world cup, yes it's high time technology should be introduced more as when there is technology, why not use it and that too for prestigious world cups like this one.referees do make mistakes and that is understandable, but when they do it in world cups, where people's emotions very high, it can be dangerous also. So, in a way by introducing technology more and more, we might be even saving their life if some things really turns ugly and dangerous

I am firmly in favor of using technology at least for the game changing events. It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth when you get beaten due to a refereeing decision. But, care should be taken that it should not slow down the game. I think Field Hockey has implemented the technology in a very prudent way and Football can learn from that. Cheers! Ram

I don't think technology should be used. They would start it for just goals, but this would then evolve to offside's and other such decisions, which in turn would slow the game down. Football has been played without technology for over 100 years and I think we all agree that it's the greatest game in the world, so why change it. I guarentee that in every game of football that is played the officials will make less mistakes that the football players.

It is hard to know how far to go if technology is used. In most matches a wrong decision is made, such as a throw in being given to the wrong team or a corner being given when it should have been a goal kick. I suppose you could trace these decisions to a goal in some occasions. Do you use it just for goal line decisions ? If that was the case then the off side would not have been spotted in the Argentina - Mexico game. I would prefer to have extra officials. Why not have a linesman in each 1/4 of the pitch which would make them a lot closer to the action.

I think that with soccer like Rugby there is suppose to be that blindness on the feild like there is in all of life. I played Rugby and soccer. And having the Referee make a bad call was just part of the game and the fun! It would get you even more focused when the ref was making bad calls. I think that Soccer and Rugby both having a lot in common with each other should both have as little of technology as possible as it makes them a different sport than the rest of them out there. I don't think it makes the game and less fun to play or watch even when the ref misses a call what else would you talk about?

Okay from what I understand the reason why Sepp Blatter and FIFA decided against technology is because it would undermine the authority of the ref. And in a way I can appreciate the reason because you know for every single foul, dive or whatever players would be demanding the use of technology and that would be just detrimental to the game with far too many stopages. But as has been proven in a few games, not just the England game, the need for technology is substantial and something must be done before the next big tournament. For me that would would mean technology specifically for catching off sides and goals which are unjustly given or equally unjustly disallowed. What I don't want to see is technology to encroach every part of the game such as fouls, dives and balls just going out of play. And if they don't want to go the technology route then they should at least go with more officials and linesmen. Their may still be human error but it becomes less likely.

it is not a simple thing. First we need to remember that many sports use the technology, like some of our friends said, and it helped a lot to decrease the errors in all those sports, but we need to remember that football is a diferent sport, the time doesn't stop when someone makes a foul, when the ball leaves the field, in fact the time in football never stops, so use technology in Tenis is easy cause when the referee gives a point for example the game stop so it is a perfect moment to see if the decision was correct or not. In football it will never happen, if the referee stops to see if a foul was really a foul, the time will pass, if he stops to see if a player was in offside the time will pass. So to use technology in football like in other sports we need to change the football rules and make the time stop when the game stop or when the referee need, and honestly i think that would ruin the games. But, i think the technology can help in some cases, for example, sometime ago i heard that Fifa (i think was Fifa) was studying the idea to put a Chip in the ball to accuse when the ball leaves the field or when the ball cross the goal line, that is a great idea and will let game continue without need to stop it to take a decision. If we had that at this moment the referee would know that the goal of Engalnd was a goal (hehe) and a HUGE mistake could be prevented and maybe the history of this World Cup could be different

It is really a shame for FIFA not to implement technology to assist the referees. But the worse thing is they don't even want to give any statement for the referees wrong decisions. In addition, they always support their referees as if their referees is always right.

I think they just don't want their officials to get found out whenever they're committing mistakes. It's kind of funny though. Something that had been flashed on the screen clearly says it all, and they were like even blaming that screen for flashing what really happened. lol
