I am not sure how many of you are using Dell computers but I am certainly glad that I rejected their sales pitch till this year. This article certainly came as a startling revelation and I just wonder what's actually going on with the management when they really have so many giant customers like Walmart, Wells Fargo and many others who buys millions of their computers. It is revealed through documents recently unsealed in a three-year-old lawsuit against Dell, showed that the company’s employees were actually aware that the computers were likely to break and still, tried to play down the problem to customers and allowed customers to rely on trouble-prone machines. As in the words of Ira Winkler, a former computer analyst for the National Security Agency and a technology consultant: “They were fixing bad computers with bad computers and were misleading customers at the same time. They knew millions of computers would be out there causing inevitable damage and were not giving people an opportunity to fix that damage.” Not only are the universities like University of Texas that bought their computers are having problems but the government offices as well. Well, I just do not know who is running Dell (to the ground) but I cannot help wonder just where do they stand as far as business ethics is concern. What do you think? Still buying Dell computers or their laptops? Read more: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/In-FaultyComputer-Suit-Window-nytimes-2375403564.html?x=0

I haven't seen or heard anything about Dell doing what you say but it wouldn't surprise me with the way corporations handle business. The only problem I have with it is that Dell is my favorite brand of computers and Dell is what I use everyday for work and personal use both. Even if Dell has been utilizing some unethical work habits then I say clean house and get back to making a quality product because on the whole I will still take Dell over the other brands any day.

cableman67, Since you are from the States and that this news is relevant to where you are from, I'd suggest that you check it out and ensure that your machine is not having those faulty inventories where it will leak out harmful chemicals over a period of extensive use. Damaging the equipment is nothing or my main concern but when it harms our health and personal well being - then that will be considerable to me. Hope you catch my drift here and my be careful warning. Better safer than never.

Someone bought me this used Dell laptop for Christmas in 2005. I like Compaq myself. As for the laptop, I'm glad ai have it but I was never too crazy about it or Dell. If I had the money I'd buy a Sony Vaio laptop.

RobtheRock, Well, in that case, I'd suggest that you make sure that you check the official Dell official web page or better still bring it down to their sales service center to have it checked out that they are not using the batch of faulty inventories in your machine which may leak out harmful chemicals, which may in turn pose health hazards to your family or yourself. So please be careful and take care.

Actually the computers in my company are Dell. Besides, my laptop is also Dell. My laptop Dell has been bought for over 2 years, I guess. It still works well. I think Dell's computers are good. They have good quality and the price is very reasonable. I especially feel satisfactory to the Dell after-sale service and technology support. If I will buy a new computer again, it is likely that I will buy Dell. I love China

youless, I think you can agree with me that if the computer parts are faulty, they can be replaced and if the software is corrupted, it can be reinstalled. However, I feel the real worry here is not one of faulty machine or parts or software but one whereby desktop PCs are riddled with faulty electrical components that can leak chemicals, causing the malfunctions and posing health hazards for the end user. If I were you, I would call up Dell's service and support to clarify this matter and seek assurance in black and white against any electrical components that might be leaking chemicals. Dell may probably have to conduct a personal reexamination to reassure you, but whatever it is I'd seek that you exercise extreme caution here. Take care.

I have never really trusted PCs when it comes to buying notebooks. I do not know about the desktops because I have an assembled PC which runs far better than any company oriented PC. When it comes to the notebooks, I trust only Apple. I have been using a MacBook for the past three years and I should be truthful in saying that I have never had any problems with it. Even if I had any, the Apple Customer Care were very kind enough to replace the malfunctioning hardware. bourne

bournecaindelta, As far as Apple is concern, it is also a company oriented personal computer and that the parts are equivalent to any known computer parts available in the market or if I might say may even be similar to those parts in your self assembled computer. Anyway, like Apple I am sure users of company oriented brands are actually buying for assurance of quality and reliable after sales service and support. The only thing is that Dell has actually resorted to such deplorable acts is just appalling at the end of the day.

Hey sky! My girlfriend who thinks her and her family know everything about everything and only want the best of everything because they have so much money only wanted to buy a "Dell Computer" because it was the "best"! And when her parents went to buy it there was some problem about it not being ready for release because of some problem, so they waited to get it the following month because they still had to have a "Dell"! She has it and I don't know what's going on except she has had a few "issues" with it already and only had it for about 6 months! We aren't speaking so I won't know how things will turn out! But, that's what happens when you don't really know what you're talking about (her 21 year old son thinks he know everything about computers)! I don't really give a damn! I've had a cheap Compac computer for 4 years now, with problems, hardly any power, my mom bought it without knowing anything but price! But, I was so thrilled to just have a computer I didn't care! With the help of my "computer guy" we've kept it going because he became by friend/sort of son so he does stuff for me for free otherwise I'd be up sh!t's creek without a paddle! But, at least I didn't profess to know what the hell I was doing and what I was getting! I just wanted a computer and couldn't afford one so I took what I could get! And my computer guy/almost son gave me his refurbished Acer Laptop too! If he ever finishes setting up the router and downloading the software I will have an even better computer! The main thing is my girlfriend's family knew there was problems with Dell before they bought the computer, but still bought it anyway!

Dell sells trash. I haven't bought a Dell computer in a long time and I never will again. The last one I bought about 5 years ago was junk when I took it out of the box. I sent it back to the company and got my money back and said good by to Dell. None of the PC's or Laptops that you and I would buy are dependable. The hardware isn't the problem, it's the software and all the junk we put on them off the web. Art

vikas_711, cowboyofhell, Dell is a household name indeed where she is one of America’s most celebrated and admired companies that is synonymous with efficiency, outsourcing and tight inventories. However, I feel that due to the rampant keen competition and the ever upkeep of reputation to be the lowest in the price of computers amongst her competitors, Dell might have overdone things and done themselves in. The part that is of real concern here is not one of faulty machine as a whole but one whereby desktop PCs are riddled with faulty electrical components that were leaking chemicals, causing the malfunctions and pose health hazards for the end user. So, I'd be really careful here than to risk my family and me.
