Potatoes

When we are watching our budget we just get plain old Idaho potatoes in a five pound bag. When hubby and I want a treat we buy Yukon Gold potatoes for soups and miscellaneous. Those are our favorite.

I love potatoes specially the brown ones.. :) I usually make a french fries out of it :) Baby potatoes are cute too..

Recently, I have been buying the white potatoes, which really taste great. Sometimes they are really costly, as they are sold by the potato or in small bags. I do buy 5 and 10 pound bags during the holidays when we are serving more potatoes.

The potatoes I buy are just called 'brushed potatoes'! I'm sure they have a proper descriptive name but I'm not sure of it. I find I can mash, roast, steam or fry these potatoes, they're the cheapest and they taste great! I love potatoes. My pet pig has them boiled every night for dinner and I eat them almost every day too. If I need to make a salad, usually for christmas day or a BBQ I am attending, I'll buy the chat potatoes (baby potatoes). I chop them in half and steam them. Then I mix them with fresh parsley, crushed garlic and warm olive oil. However I find the flavour of chat potatoes so nice, I can just eat them boiled on their own.

I usually buy the 10# bag of potatoes typically just whatever is cheapest wheather they be from Idaho or Wisconsin. We eat lots of baked potatoes in my house especially for lunches. I buy reds for St Pats day corned beef or potato salad.

I prefer the red potatoes too, I find they cook better. My mother says the other type is best for roasting although I’ve used red ones and they’ve been fine. I like potatoes; in fact it’s the only vegetable my eight year old will eat! Potatoes are great and so versatile; there are so many ways to cook them!
