Last week there happened an incident here near my house. A girl of 8 died in the swimming pool, reason over exhaustion and fatigue. the child was enrolled in many activities. dance, music , swimming and drawing. that day the mother stuffed her too much with food and brought her reluctantly to the pool, the kid was not interested at all, the mother forced to do swimming, after an hour the kid said its enough, she is not feeling alright, but the stubborn mother didn't listen. after 10 mins the girl died of suffocation. Many parents are like this. I see so many over expectant mothers these days...this incident should be an eye opener for all.

Wow, that is really sad to hear. I'm not going to deny that my children are involved in their fair share of extracurricular activities, but that doesn't mean that I force them to do these activities when they don't feel like doing them. I would hate to cause my children to lose interest in one of the activities that they started out loving, and even worse than that, I would hate to lose one of my children because I was pushing them too far. I am so sorry for that little girl.

You are a very sweet mom... Yes, I almost cried .....just 8 yrs old, the parents didn't allow any newspaper to publish any news on this. My kids also do swimming and I don't force if they don't want to do. I always go around the pool when they r in the water. I never allow them to enter if their stomach is too full or empty.

I have been wondering if I am by myself in thinking that kids have too many activities. I have only one child who is in gymnastics, she just started and I put her in there because I have a home daycare so she needs something where I am not the boss, and is outside the home. She is three. She is loving it but if she told me she didn't want to do it anymore I wouldn't make her go. I had to tell her this week and next that the place is closed for remolding and she is bummed. But why do kids need a hundred activities what happed to hey go play in the sun with your friends go dig in the dirt have fun. Not getting flash cards everyday and must be learning all the time must be in sports. What happened to sitting down for a meal and not eating it in the car. Now yes I feed my daughter in the car when we have a busy day but I really try if we are going to eat out and stop somewhere so she can play for a bit. I want my child to be a child and enjoy it not be forced to do too many activities.

I think thats awful for the parents concerned! I doubt any parents goes out there thinking hey lets push our kids until they die! Id also want to know why she was swimming with no lifeguard there also? or someone around who knew first aid. Alink to the story would be good for all the facts if you have one.
