HI all, as it turns out it is raining here today on the Fourth of July. HMM? also seems I'm not getting discussions either....... Oh well, I had to call the law two nights in row due to fireworks being shot off at all hours of the night an in the early AMs..........they did stop after the deputy left tho. I know there are designated areas for shooting off fireworks that are really close, so why don't my inconsiderate neighbors use them?

Hi quita So far here in KY it isn't raining. I hope that the rain holds off until after the fireworks. Here in our small town they have a curfew on how late that you can shoot off the fireworks. Before the 4th no more after 10PM and then on the 4th no more after midnight. I think that people just get so wrapped up in their joy that they don't think about the time or others. Keep smiling and have a good 4th.

I know what you mean about the rain. Isn't funny how people that have no income seem to have more fun than those of us who work and don't get all the fun stuff..LOL

To me the biggest problem is these people can't afford to pay their rent and yet they buy up probably hundreds of dollars of fireworks and then shoot them off disturbing others. I know for a fact that the time for shooting them off is 10 PM and they have surpassed that by over an hour each nite. I learned from my neighbor that there are designated areas to shoot off fire works but they don't want to leave the driveway. To be honest, I'm glad it's raining ...I do hope they go into town and watch the displays set up for the fourth. Happy Fourth !

When I was a child living on my G-parents' farm, we were not poverty stricken, but we had to have a stringent budget. Yet my Grandmother somehow found enough in her budget to set off a roman candle or 2, & buy a sparkler for me, knowing how much I enjoyed it. Maybe she did, too... But it was her money--not government welfare, & she managed to save up money for her old age & burial. I never went without, & she never nagged me if I asked for a treat once in a while. It made the treats all that more enjoyable, knowing I didn't get one often! And I learned how to make that penny squeal! It is very rainy here as well. This year the length of time we can have fireworks shot off is shortened to just four days. I do not shoot them, and they do not bother us a lot once we get to sleep. People do not feel that they need to leave their own property to shoot fireworks, but they forget that others need rest and quiet and do not want to listen to it all night.

It is still going strong, but I want to go to bed. We sleep with the windows open so the noise can be even worse. I understand about the pets and the Lou Gehrig's disease and startle reflex as well.

It's after mid nite now and I'm goin to try to get some sleep.I haven't heard any fireworks for about thirty minutes now, so maybe I can sleep. I gave my one dog a tranquilizer a few hours ago to make this night easier on her. The rain has stopped and so has the fireworks so maybe tomorrow we can get back to normal.

There were two houses burned down here because they were drinking and shooting fireworks. It rained really hard for awhile, then drizzled most of the evening. The fireworks displays (three of them) were cancelled due to the rain. One is supposed to be scheduled for tonight, but I doubt many people will go because they start so late and tomorrow's a work day.

This is the kind of things I worry about with fireworks. The two nights I called the law it was like the fireworks were hitting my house. I've lived thru two fires and watched one man lose his hand due to fireworks. The drunkenness just makes it worse cuz these people can't think well and they think they are big old boys.........not. I am sorry your fourth was ruined. Maybe the displays will excellent ! Let' hope so.

hi quita here in California the last two fourths we had six homes burned to the ground from carelessly thrown fireworks that set the roofs on fire and since the people living there were out watching the city sponsored fireworks nobody there to report the fire so it was not gotten to at once. So now only fireworks displays are allowed in most Southern California cities. some so called safe fireworks are allowed but none of them are all that safe. Its been a cloudy over gloomy day here In Garden Grove but nice and warm out but not too warm. I kept waking up last night hearing illegal fireworks booming. a lot of people go across the Mexican border to buy fireworks banned here in the US. mainly big rocket type stuff that really is so noisy. then all the dogs started the town bark. oh such fun trying to sleep, and that was pre fo urth.

Yes Hatley I hear you ! We've not had fires here mainly cuz we've had a rainy week but it could happen. I don't live any where near you and we do live in a small residential area where it's usually peacefull and calm. WE've had two sets of new comers who rent ratty old trailers and I expect next month they will be put out due to not being able to pay their rent and yet they buy up fireworks and shoot them to their heart's content. I too have had a couple of lousy sleeping nights and after calling the law again last night and then sitting up to wait and talk to that deputy, the fourth is SHOT for me :( I think even tho it's our country's birthday there should be more stringent laws about where, when and maybe how to shoot these monstrosities off and certainly not where people actually live. Yes it's still pre fourth here too. So we shall see won't we?

I wish it had been rainy here in New Mexico. My son-in-law decided to set off fireworks in the backyard and I was so afraid the roof was going to go up in flames. These kids today don't have a bit of fear. You see my house has been sold and I'm waiting to go to closing next month (GOD WILLING) so I was terrified that something bad was going to happen. They all thought I was acting crazy. I have every right to be upset I thought. Now that I have read the above response from Hatley I know I had every right to be nervous. I hope your weather is better today and the fireworks is over for this year.

Now why would want to call the law on the 4th of july. Are you one of the people that dont like fireworks? let the people have fun. here where i live they been going off since 2 days ago and they are still going off. they not bother me at all. I like the hear them. I dont care less if they fire them and i still get up in the morning and go to work, How old are you anyway. Did you not ever have fireworks and fire them off all night long? thats fun...

I DID NOT CALL THE LAW ON THE FOURTH OF JULY !! I did call two nites in a row due to the unlawful shooting of fireworks in a residential area. Read all the discussions. TONIGHT IS THE FOURTH......I'VE BEEN OUT WATCHING THE FIREWORKS MYSELF...... I've always had fireworks and if you'd looked at my profile you;d see how old I am. Don't be self righteous with me. I have fun too and you need to read.................

Fireworks are banned here in Malaysia but can only be played during festive seasons. I remembered my mom's rented houses were razed to the ground early this year cos of illegal shooting of fireworks by the neighboring children. No one took responsibility of the fire and the case was written off as electricity short circuit.

I am sorry for the fires due to firworks. It's sad that here in American, the birth of our nation, we can't use the firworks properly and be proud of our independence. An electrical short, huh? Man they can cover up anything can't they?
