Clearing Friends off Friends List or PhoneBook. Is it necessary?

My best friend actually goes thru her facebook friend list and cell phone address book and delete people she don't talk to any more. I think it's pointless because you added them to begin with or you may have wanted them on your friend list or in your address book at one point. So what's the point in deleting them now. I can understand if your address book or friend list is full and you need to make space but just to do it? can some one help me understand. Do you guys go through and delete people you dont speak to often or leave them? I personally leave them, you never know maybe one day they will pop up in your head or you in theirs. If you just so happen to pop up in their head and they decide to call you or text you and you don't have their number anymore. You gotta ask who is this and make up a lie and say hey my phone was replaced or flat out tell them you deleted them out your life. Why? Isn't it easier to just leave them there. Any thoughts?

I have 'cleaned up' my facebook multiple times. Of course all the people on my list are people that I have actually met at one point in my life...like kids I went to school with in 2nd grade, etc, but sometimes after adding people from your past you realize they aren't people you have anything in common with now. I guess I'm just particular in WHO I let see my posts =)

Hi cbrow171! I also deleted those friends whom I don't know personally or those people who added me and are not even interested in knowing me. I used to add people before when I was playing facebook games such as farmville, sorority life etc. just because those games requires more members but when I stopped playing, I also deleted those people I don't know. I understand your bestfriend because what's the use of being those people in my list when I don't know them especially at this time, people got in trouble in facebook.
