Have You Ever Bought New Clothing Only To Ruin It In Its First Wash?

I bought my first "going out" top for ages. I got such a buzz out of the purchase, plus the fact it was reduced and bright, sunshine yellow in colour. I wore it on Saturday and loved it because it was so comfortable to wear. I was so terrified of ruining it in the wash that I placed it in the washing-machine on its own! Thankfully, this worked a treat and this "sunshine yellow" top is now drying merrily in the..er, evening sunshine on the line. Excellent! Are you lucky with new clothes when washing them or have you had any disasters you would like to share with us?

I am usually pretty lucky when it comes to washing things. I don't usually buy anything that is dry-clean only unless I know that it really can be washed. I wash even the tweed slacks I have that are dry-clean only and they are just fine. I do have problems with Victoria's Secret because I only buy Bra Sets from them when I need something for a special occasion mainly because their stuff is so expensive so only if I need something really pretty I would but from them. I stopped once I noticed that the second time I washed the set the bra would get a hole in the lace and start to unravel. So now I only buy from reputable lingerie shops locally, and its cheaper.

I do wash my Underwire Bras too! Also I have 2 suits that are Faux Suede and I wash the Jackets and the Skirts with no problem. I was skeptical at first and would take the first one I got to the dry cleaners but after a couple of years of wearing it to work I could have bought a whole new wardrobe so I decided to wash it and it turned out fine so I bought another one in black.

Thanks for that! As for underwear, we shouldn't really wash underwire bras in the washing-machine but I don't know anybody who doesn't..me included! I think it's great that most items of clothing can be washed without having to go to the Dry Cleaners. However, my hubby has a faux suede jacket and we took one look at it and thought.."Nooo, best take it to the Dry Cleaners!" So we did. We're lucky because they are based around the corner from us and did a good job of the jacket too.

My whites may not be the whitest whites, but I avoid disasters such as these by washing most of my stuff in COLD water. I do, however, run into the occasional disaster due to the children leaving things in their laundry that I have missed. The most recent was Naomi's spotted pink wash due to there being something in there (I never did find the offending item) that I didn't find. It is slowly and not so surely washing out over time.

Now if only they could design one that gets things as clean as washing in "warm" or "hot" without the danger of shrinking and/or color bleeding...

Oh dear, that's unfortunate my friend.Mum's new washing machine is ace because she can use a cold Eco wash and because some detergents are designed to be used in cold water she buys that too. It's wonderful that machines can help us in this way, it makes life a whole lot easier.

A few years ago I bought this beautiful purple rayon out fit. I loved it and it was so soft. Dummy me washed it and put it in the dryer and when I pulled the set out..they were so tiny they looked like doll clothes..LOL...From then on out I am very careful about the instructions and material..Note...Never wash and dry rayon..dryclean only!

I'd often wondered what rayon was as it's not that well-known over here in the UK. Apparently, it's "manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber" no less which may explain why it shrunk lol. I was lucky in the fact my new top is made of 100% viscose which, ironically is similar to rayon!
