I haven't had a regular physician that I normally see since I was about 17 years old and that was because I stopped seeing my pediatrician lol because I had become too old. How important do you think it is to have a regular family doctor?? My daughter sees an excellent doctor whom she loves and I love, too. I've had problems in the past with my gastoric area... losing my gall bladder in 2009 and having to see a specialist. Do you like your current family doctor or are you looking for another??

Hello mrscallands22, I think it is very important to have a family doctor. Emergency rooms visits are very costly to you... plus the friendship that grows if you find a good one lasts a long time and they get to know your children and hopefully their children etc... and understand there medical records what works and does not work. if you keep changing doctors they do not see habits or patterns that go on in your body etc... Thanks and have a great day! Sincerely Unique16

You're right... emergency room doctors ARE costly omg.. and you have to wait forever. Here in my city, we only have an emergency room. A lot of other cities have an emergency room and a NON-emergency room for the less critical. In this local hospital, they just dump everyone in one area.. sick, coughing everywhere, disgusting.. then you wait an hr before they check your vitals, 5 hours before you're taken back into and room, 3 more hours before a doctor finally waltzes in to see you.. 10 minutes for them to "figure out whats wrong and diagnose you", 2 hours to be released, 30 minutes to sign all the release paperwork and an agreement with the hospital's SEPERATE business office requiring that you pay what your insurance doesn't cover regardless of the amount. 20 more minutes to cross the street full of suspect police who are spec'n on everyone but in the wrong area where NONE of the crime EVER happens. So I definitely understand why you'd say that. Thanks for your comment!!

Hello, I'm new to mylot and saw your question and I hope I can make a worthwhile contribution. I personally think that it would be a good idea to have a family doctor. It does take time and a lot of trial and error s'times 'til you find the right one. You know, one that you trust and feel absolutely comfortable with. But be confident knowing that if you find one that meets all your needs, you are in good hands. I'm not an expert, but I have been through MANY of them back in my home country. Some of them I hated, others were so-so, but I did find a couple that I would sing their praises to the high heavens for, especially my present one. But I understand how you feel, I feel the same way about dentists. Maybe I wouldn't want to set foot near a doctor if I, like you, didn't have a serious reason to, 'cause I myself am afflicted with a health problem I was born with. Take your time, you'll find the right one and believe me, you'll be glad you did.

Thank you phaos for your comment!! And welcome to myLot!! I haven't been here that long myself, but I love the atmosphere and many of the people that I've run into here have intelligent feedback and are very polite. I hope that you would enjoy it here as much as I have so far! And, yes I definitely agree with you. Having a family doctor is crucial, especially for detecting things early so that they won't get bad before you're in pain. I'm sorry to hear about your condition and pray that things are great for you regardless. Maybe one day I will find one! Thanks again for your comment!! And happy myLotting!!

We do have a family doctor. I find him very good at his profession and he is very professional indeed. The good thing about having a family doctor is that, they have a good history about our medical condition and health. So when we feel something wrong then it is easier for them to diagnose the problem. I and my family have the same family doctor for 8 years already. I have no plans of looking for another one since we trust him and believe in his capabilities.

Eight years?? Wow, that's excellent. I imagine that you and your family trust him/her with your lives and that is just such a comforting feeling and truly a blessing. Thanks for your comment!!

I think it's good to have a family doctor because it's someone who knows you and has known you for a long time. So they can better take care of you. Instead of a random doctor all the time witch to them your just a random patient. Also. There's more of a comfort thing with your family doctor because you've had some history with them. Well always that's my input on this. Take care

Family doctor is seen important for other families because of the special treatment and management given to them by their chosen physician. It gives them, the reservation and confidence that whenever they feel something wrong about their health concerns, an immediate family doctor would attend fast to their needs and attentions. Aside from those privileges, they need not to have long wait hours for consulting a physician together with other patients outside the clinic. Another reason for such, is the fact that these families, will not have a hard time explaining to different doctors about their present condition and genetic illnesses. Though, quite expensive nowadays for that kind of service and hiring a family doctor. Though it can give many good benefits for the family. Somehow, there are also some family doctor who cannot attend well on the medical concerns of their patients, maybe because their specialty is only limited to certain conditions, that in for such cases, much needed a specialists for a medical treatment. In which, the family doctor have only to mediate with other specialists concerning the health and risk for their client medical condition. Happy mylotting

Family doctors are good to have, as you and mostly everyone else on this discussion agrees to. And I agree but they can be quite expensive, but if you have it like that, well worth the money. You can still find some family doctors that come out to your home and conduct home visits for the very sick.. or ones that want to keep privacy. Family doctors can always refer to specialists that they trust when something about one of their patients is out of hand. Thanks for your comment!!

Having a family doctor is a good thing bcoz he better understands your family diseases as some diseases are inherited, he will always give you a better advice other than any doctor he will remember if u get allergy from a medicine, and he will not suggest you that type of medicine BTW my father is a doctor so i don't need anyone

Yes, family doctors are good at tracing diseases that one can get due to heredity or other issues and detect them quite early while a doctor that doesn't really know your body may overlook certain things because he/she may not be sure. I can definitely agree with that. Thanks for your comment!!

To my mind,a family doctor is so important for the health of the family and about your quesion for the moment I'm still a young guy but when the chance would come up to me to start my own family it would be one of my priorities to look for a doctor that can keep an eye on itd health that's for sure.

I agree. But, see while my daughter is insured... I remain uninsured which makes procedures more expensive for me at this time.. but I do understand where you are coming from and I am trying to do the same. Thanks for your comment!!

Family doctors are very important. They can be a little expensive but they are worth it. They go above and beyond for you, and are the highest quality of doctors you can possibly have. They can give you great offers and deals on specialist prices, and can help you lower prices for other doctor visits. Some can even go wherever you need them. Really a must.
