Hi Pals... Recently I have been working extra hours... It means that I spend 10 hours in my office working on the computer and talking over phone helping people with their queries... It is a lovely job!!!! Then, at home I spend a lot of time online- on myLot and writing e mails etc... I calculated and found that I have been spending 50% of the day- 12 hours or more only with PC... I have heard rumours earlier that it is harmful to health... But I have not met with anyone who has actually suffered because of computers... What do you think about it??? Does it really harm??? Have you had any experience or have you seen anyone gone through any such trouble???? Please share... Happy Lotting!!!

Of course it's bad.I mean if sitting in front of the computer is connected with your job and making money - ok. But if you are playing games all day long then you should seriously consider the opportunity of changing this habit. Go on sports or something which can improve your health status. In my opinion if you work on a computer sitting lots of hours is a bit justified - in other cases it's not but no matter what are you doing it is harmful to health undoubtedly.

Hi Friend... Thanks for your valuable opinion... I know the dangers now.. But my job does demand it... I don't play games a lot... Once a week, I give 2 hours for entertainment by playing Counter Strike etc... But at work, I must use the computer... I think, I will need to prepared with plans in case any harm befalls me... Thanks again... Have a good day!

Hi mr_pearl, computer is good for our work, but sitting constantly for more than 5 hours is not good, you may get neck pain, back pain, your eyes may get itching etc., Computers makes our life easier by getting information. We can watch movies, download music, cookery, health tips etc., but we should no strain ourselves.

I have only heard of more of the orthopedic type problems from lots of computer time , things like back ache, neck ache and carpul tunnel type problems. I peronaly have notices some signs of eye strain but thats because i do alot of fine graphics type editing. I think there is a disadvantage to all of us that become addicted to spending time with online people rather than face to face contact and getting out of the house and socializing. This i am diffenetly guilty of and have to make sure i have an even balance with both in my life because the online things can be so easy to become addicted to and then im suffering from lack of sleep and family involvement

Hi... Thanks for sharing... I understand that computers have made most of us 'sit at home fellows'. The socializing has become little less.. The kids are more busy with the computer games than going to play outside... The grounds are becoming vacant and the game cafes are full... I have experienced this trouble too... At present, I use computers a lot because of my job and myLot... I don't do anything more than that, because I don't get time.. LOL... I am already spending more than 12 hours a day... Life and the world are getting crazy...

It's a human thing ain't it? Don't do THIS! This is BAD for you You can KILL yourself doing that! That is too DANGEROUS Assuming you're a rational person you're not going to jump of a cliff and see if it hurts. Or eat a barrel full of chocolate to see how you feel afterwards. It's common sense not to do so. I read an article a while back, 2 Australian young guys get drunk at a party and shoot each other in the *** to see if it would hurt. (Using an air rifle). ... The thing is, there are a lot of things that are bad for you, but you do them anyway because you enjoy it. The idea, is to give yourself a limit with which you're comfortable with. I spend a lot of my time on a computer as well. I know it's bad for my eyes, my skin, all the waves harming me...I don't think about that anymore, I don't worry about that. I know if I spend too much time I get a head ache, so I give myself a limit. "Right, 1 hour then I'm off to town" or "off to read a book" It's all common sense and it's different people. Mr.Pearl you can spend half your day in front of a computer, if doesn't bother you that's fine. I know I can't do that because I get a headache, so I have to take descent sized breakes.

As far as i know it can only be dangerous to your eyes, ears and stance. And by stance i mean that from sitting on that chair your normal stance may deform, however to achieve that you must spend 12 hours a day on the computer for at least probably 1 year. Eyes problems can easily be evaded with a good monitor or protection glasses. And ear problems will occur if you wear headphones while at the computer. Headphones always produce a sound and with time you will start hearing a non-stop low frequency sound (like the sound from a working CRT TV)

I remember reading somewhere that sitting in front of the computer for several hours may risk your cardiovascular health. So that's why I always make sure to stay away from computer and do something active from time to time. Also, if you spend a lot of in front of your computer unproductive like playing games all day, that's really bad.

Yeah, as far as I am concerned, I think you have nothing to do a day, it will be better for you to stay on the computer for a long time. If you are live on the computer, it will be better for you to playthe computer for a longer time. It alll depends on whatyou are doing with the computer. The time can not say good or not when you are using your computer.

Yes it is harmful to health because of the radiation coming from computers and mobile phones. You can get sick easily and you can acquire eye problems. Although computers really help us alot, they had effects that would only appear after many years.

Hi hanagi... Thanks for sharing... Yes, I have heard about the radiation effect... And now I feel worried too... But there is no way out of it, at least for now. Because my bread and butter is dependent of my work.. And myLot is something that I can't detach myself from... :) I am hoping to get promoted and then, my work will be a little less on computers... My eyes are still good, thankfully; but we never know, right???? I hope they remain good for a few more months... Have fun!

Hello! Oh 12 hours you spend with your computer It is very much and I can say you It is unhealthy too. Doctors recomends use computer no more as two hours. I have heard about special computer glasses which helps people do computer jobs many hours and do not taint eyes so much. Also If you spend many hours to computer your pressure too increases. You need to think, Does this is worth It? Have a nice day!

Hi ... Thanks for sharing... Yes, it is worth it buddy... It is my job.. Even if I change the company, I am going to have to work on computer for hours... There is no way out of it, unless I quit my industry... But I can't quit, there is no other industry and guess, I have come too far to change the job profile... I think, I will get those glasses which you have mentioned here... I wonder, if they are available in India... But I'll enquire... At least, my eyes (which have remained well for all my life) will remain fit... :) Thank you!!! Good Day!!!

Hi there again, Mister.:-) I'd say "WOW!" But what can you do when too much time spent in the computer augments the budget, brings food to the table, pays the bill, etc., etc.? I've heard you can get radiations from over using of the pc but I'm not sure how much damage it will cost to your health. But, with the way you are going, the only obvious part of your body to suffer more is your eyes. STARING THE MONITOR FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIMES MAKES YOUR EYES DRY AND IRRITATED ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN AN AIRCONDITIONED ROOM. So, better have a break in that 12 hours so as not to strain your eyes that much.

Hi there. Anything too much is bad. Staying infront of computers brings stress to our mind and body. And stress is the root of certain diseases. So if you can stay away from computers for at least a couple of hours then do it. You can't feel the effect of it today but stress will add up and when you reach ages 40's or 50's then there you will feel the effect of it. I hope you'll have a health lifestyle.

12 hours is safe to work on computers as long as you get your other daily chores done substantially, I mean, have food at regular time, have sufficient sleep etc. If you are sacrificing these for the sake of computers, then alarm bells should start ringing in your ears. Also, one thing happens to us that we get socialized online, but we miss the people around us. We might be aware of what our online friends are doing, but we never know what our family members, neighbours are and we might skip the fact that they too need us, they too need our company for a small time. Don't let that happen and it will be fun to balance both the things. Best luck!

I think that spending time on computer isn't good for people because they don't do anything else. They don't go out or do some sports. Many become addcit from internet and this is very bad. These people stay on computer more than 15 hours a day. They become asocial and fat.
