Well now-a-days it seems that people dont get interest in watching movies in the halls as they has the option to see all movies through internet just after releasing. It seems very rare to see very few are till there who watch movies in the halls otherwise many people think that it has become a wastage of money now as we have the chance to see it at home by not paying any money in the movie halls. But dont you think it has caused loss to the owners of the halls and the forums as it comes under the trade and business for them and for this reason also many movie halls have been closed and the owner of these halls are now suffering from financial problem and if we see the life of the people, the craze and excitement, the gathering of friends and their enjoyment for watching movies together have also been gone. Dont you think that to prevent and protect this type of business there should have some rules of the restriction on watching movies online or any other substitution to protect both the online business and this business also?

Yes, internet has big impact in movies. We all know watching movie now a days is very expensive so some people prefer to wait and wait instead of spending their money for one time watch.

But there are all types of movie theaters available in the place, some of them cost so reasonable, so huge amount is not the only cause for this.

Hi Manasi, I am also from India and I can see people Just download movies from some kind of sites called as Torrnets OR torrents..I think Cost is not only reason, it depends on how much time you get to watch movie, do you want to store that movie on your HDD, if you want to watch that movie again and again..

Yes surely it gives a negative impact to movie theater. Not only because people can watch movie online, but many people are more stuck behind their computer nowadays. People can stay online, play games, etc hours and hours a day. Like myself, when I am busy in front of my computer, it can be hours and hours and it will be lazy for me to drive to movie theater.

I'm sorry but technology will go on. Every day new ways of communicating are being developed and it is getting easier to watch new movies right in your home instead of having to go out to the theater. I'm sorry that this disturbs you but progress will go on and change is always right around the corner. I wish the businesses that you mention were not suffering but they will have to change along with everything else if they want to survive. Change is not always a bad thing it is just scary because it takes what we are used to and comfortable with and replaces it with something new that we are not used to. Businesses will always suffer if they don't change with the times. That is unfortunately the way of the world.

I do not think the internet has caused any loss to movie halls. Watching a movie on a laptop and watching one in the halls is a very different. Watching a movie in the theatre gives a sense of being in the actual place and you get to be with many other people. Whereas watching a movie on the computer gives the feeling of aloneness. The sound effects are not as amplified as in the movie halls.

I suppose that restrictions would help the owners but it is getting so ridiculously expensive to go to a cinema these days. We had a discussion the other day and it appears that for a family of four to go to a movie and have popcorn and a drink you definitely need at least $90 bucks. People do not have that luxury, not so much anymore so that is why they are opting to cut back and stay home.

Yes you are right.Today internet is playing a very big role for the development of knowledge as well as it also increases piracy all over the world it is very helpful for those whom want to get free or at very cheaper cost companies software and applications so the internet is causes loss in the entertainment field but also it prevent loss in it sector and many other multi-national companies so internet is a open source and here you can find everything at very low cost or most of the time free.

do mean movie theaters? i never heard of movie halls but anyway at the movie theaters its really never been better where i live in U.S. it seems like theirs record ticket sales on movies very often when a new and popular film comes out. alot of times when a new and popular film comes out its not surprising to see it broke all-time weekend ticket sales or other records. the most recently popular film THE TWILIGHT SAGA:ECLIPSE broke a ticket sale record. it was probably either most selling tickets for an opening day or most selling tickets in the weekend or week. those are the records that usually get broken for most movies.

Yes,I think internet has caused great loss to some extent. It is very obvious that more and more people choose to watch the films through internet around us.It is much cheaper and more convenient. But meanwhile,I don't think internet will possess all the option to see movies in the future.Firstly, watching films in the cinemas has already become one of the main social activities for many of us to keep touch with their friends for quite a long period of time. What they focus on the most is not what they have seen in the films but the enjoyable sense by means of these activities.Secondly, watching movies in the cinemas can give us higher quality on films, the sound effect and third dimension are much more better than watchin through internet.

even if i know it has some effect, in this country pirated dvds are more rampant so this is one biggest problems they have. But they counter it if they lowered the ticket prices which is basically $3-$6 which is a little bit high for the population.

yes i think downloading movies from internet has caused loss to theaters.....i also download movies online but i watch maximum movies on theater on first day first show....because the joy of big screen and dolby sound can never be enjoyed at home.....and at home your concentration will not be 100 % on movie thats why i prefer theaters.....but the movies which are not available at a malls i have to download them.....and these theater owner keeps a camera in projection room and records the movie and sells it to forum or website owner this is the truth...this print is called theater print.....and sometimes they scans the ril of movie and converts film in cd/dvd and sells it again....this print is called predvdrip because it has nice clearity and sound quality......so for this only theater owners are responsible....because original dvds never gets in market on the first day of film....... happy mylotting

I think when videos first came out that they made a big difference to cinema attendance but I think that numbers have started to increase again at the cinema - that certainly seems to be the case here in the UK

in my opinion,no they don't have to as there are lots of people still enjoy cinema than watching through online.if not they are not going to ventured themselves on something like 3D movie.for example, a blockbuster movie like avatar.they received a billions dollar and that's show how cinema or movie theaters are still in people choice.about online movie, it is just an alternative for people who missed the movie.

Now a days people are so technical and educated everyone knows how to use technology and internet is also a part of technology and it is increasing with the growth rate of 32% per day and everyone knows it is a best way of entertainment as well as knowledge may be this is the biggest reason behind your question and may be many technical reason behind it so cool and enjoy internet.

It's true that Movie houses are suffering from the loss of some of its customers because of the internet. But I don't think that that's big a loss for them. I mean, maybe there are used-to-be moviegoers who opt to stay in their houses and watch movies for free than go to movie houses and pay for movies. But there are still those people who prefer to watch the movies in the big screen. I'm one of those who want to watch movies in movie houses because nothing beats the feeling of exclusivity you get from watching it in the big screen. I'd prefer the big screen than the small confines of your monitor; I'd prefer the Dolby sound than the speaker generated sound in my computer. Yes they had loses, but they don't go bankrupt because of avid moviegoers like myself. =)
