How frequently do you format your computer. I used to format my computer earlier when I was new here 3 to 4 times in an year. But now I have reduced to 1 or 2 times. I know even this is a big number , but I have backups. And format pc improve the performance and a lot of junk files are vanished. So it helps really. What about your preferences.

I'm using an Apple Mac computer, I have not yet reformat for this year. Last year I reformatted twice not for maintenance but doing hard disk volume partition for multiple bootcamps of Operating System. My last reformat last year was to eliminate other Operating System and just use the Mac OS X only and to gain more Hard Disk space, and still have those partitions (4x partitions) for different purposes.

I've just formated my computer one time. But my brother formats his computer at least 10 times in a year.

First off I think it's safe to say that nobody really likes or wants to do this. It's something we all have to do from time to time if things go wrong... Very WRONG. Secondly I would have to say how often this needs to be done depends on some variables. For instance, what operating system is the person running? As the Microsoft OSes advance the need for this becomes less frequent. It in entirely possible that if the person uses some sort of Unix or a variant such as Linux that the system could literally run for decades without having to be formated. Also we have to take a look at what is the computer being used for and how often. The casual user will probably find that they don't have to do this nearly as much as a power user who runs opperations that are constanly accessing the disk drive. Lastly I would say part of the equation is how well the system in maintained... a disk defragmentation once or twice a year can go along way in preventing failure. Now that I think of it it could even bread down into a regional thing. Do people in Seattle have to do this more than people say in New York? Thunderstorms resulting in power failures that corrupt system files have been a big reason for me having to format and re-install an OS... so do people in "stormy" areas have more problems? I digress... me personally I'm running Windows 7 now.... I'm somewhere between a power user and a casual.... and I have not had to format and re-install once since having put this computer together about 2 years ago :)

I would rather say that you must format it two times a year.. formatting it so frequent may damage the hard drive because it uses so much power and speed. use scandisk once a month so you can secure and make ur hard drive last. same with defragmenter. be sure to install ccleaner which cleans junk files or useless files also a anti-virus, anti-malware and a anti-spyware its better if those three we're in a 1 software.. it this way you can make your hard drive always clean and prevent frequent formatting.. :)
