Not Happy With My New Internet Service Provider

On June 14,2010, I made a decision to change my internet serivice provider (ISP) from AOL, whom I had an account with for fifteen years, to AT&T. I went from dial up to AT&T's highest speed, which is 6.0. Well, I am just not happy that I made that choice and I will tell you why. I am often getting messages that I need to reboot my system, which means I have lost my current position. I also noticed that my pages were not opening not too much faster than before I switched. To say the least, I am unhappy and I feel foolish. The final straw that broke the camel's back came yesterday when I got booted off and was not able to get back on without calling them for technical support, who are usually very patient, supportive, and apologetic. During the conversation between the service representative and myself, I noticed the DSL and the internet light on the 2wire modem were flashing red, not green, this problem was new. I called for one problem and discovered more. Patience is what I needed and I am proud to say that I kept my cool for about an hour with technical support. How we/they solved my problems. First, I was told that I should not plug my modem into a surge protector. Have you ever heard of this before? So, I then unplugged it and place it into the wall socket, there was no change. So, I was asked to take the phone line adaptor, which they supplied, out of the wall and just plug in the modem into the wall phone socket. That seemed to solve the problem, straight of green lights on the modem. In other words, the adaptor is no good and surge protector is out. Finally, about the speed. We ran a speed test and found out that my speed was at 3. something. They worked on it until they got it up to 5.16, I was not happy. I was told at this point that they could never guarantee that I would get the full 6.0. I am happy to say after a few more adjustments, we ran another speed test and the final one read 5.68. Horray, I am flying, well sort of. Check out your speed for free at www.speedtest.com.

I can't comment on your new ISP as I know nothing about them but we've been with AOL ever since we've had a computer and we've always found them very good.
