Do you think that humanity will reach the point of interstellar space travelling

I am just wondering if humanity will ever reach the point of interstellar space travelling. Its hard for me to believe that we will reach that point cause at the rate we are going right now we will never be able to reach that point due to lack of concern. We can't even solve our current problems in this planet right now cause most of us are only concerned about our lifetime. Another thing that also hinders our progress is greed. If there is no money to be earned in something, no one will be interested in it. So taking these into consideration I think that it will take humanity a very long time for us to achieve interstellar space travelling. What is your point of view on this subject?

yes but i think it will be for centuries more. with our bodies now and with the current techonology even if the world resources would be used i think the persons in the ship may reach more than 1000 generations before reaching their destination.

Humans should eventually be able to become that advanced, but it will probably not be in our lifetimes. But it is very unpredictable because right now humans are advancing very quickly, and in the future we will advance even faster. I think that interstellar space travel can be possible in the near future. It would be very interesting to be alive when it happens.

hi Andyvil When my husband was alive he predicted interstellar space travel in 2010 but lo and behold its that now and no space travel yet. You are right on the button in so many things here. We are not as concerned about what we are doing to this world or about space as we should be. I think you are right,it is going to take ages for this to happen. I think too that greed will figure in so that only those with tons of money will be able to travel in space. great discussion too.

I don't know if we will, but I think that we ought to try. If we are stuck on this one planet, or even in this one solar system, eventually the sun will go nova and we, and everything that we did, will be gone.

I believe it will but not in the near future. There are already commercial space flights available.

Haven't we progressed a lot since Galileo saw the moons of Jupiter on his telescope. There will be interstellar travel but not in our life time.It may take a few centuries. But ultimately as science advances don't you feel one day we'll be travelling at fantastic speeds and exploring distant stars and planets.

We were advancing fast during the cold war. During that time the space race made a lot of advancements compared to our current situation. It was during those time when man reached the moon. With our current technology right now we could actually bring a man to mars. As of the moment there is no interest in space travelling cause there is no competition from other countries. It would be nice if our generation can achieve this.

This reminds of Yuri Gagarin of Russia, the first man to travel around the world in space. Just a thought though.

hi.. you're right we can't expect such travels in our near future.. may be in the next century.. but if it happens I'm eager to participate..in travel but not a migration.. I'll never leave ma mother earth.. thanks..

Hi andy... I am positive and hopeful that humans will travel in space one day.. I mean, think of 1950's... I wasn't born but I have read a lot about those times... A computer weighed some tons then... And a scientist had said that by 2000 they'll reduce its weight to one and half ton... I wish that scientist is still there to see it... Trust in human logic and intelligence buddy.. It might not happen in this generation... But it'll happen one day...

yes. you're right in our irresponsibility... we may even spoil other places ..if we visit other planets too.. and sometime man will even abandon our mother earth... by the way .have you seen the movie WALL-E..its a clear demonstration of oour future.. thanks for the topic... have a great day/night...

This discussion reminds me the story of our instructor in Physics. Once there as once a politician who met an Alien. The Alien was searching the galaxy to recruit members for the Interplanetary Organization, however the Alien said to the politician, "You humans cannot join the Interplanetary Organization, you can't even travel deep in space, you haven't even answered the most simple energy equation. You humans need to think, think, think, think! Think harder! And Alien left the politician thinking... @_@ Brings back memories. Back to the topic though. I guess interstellar space travelling is not impossible, but it's gonna take time, as what everybody has mentioned. ^_^. But who knows, next year, somebody might invent a space ship that can travel through light.

yep! i do think so! but i don't think we'll be able to experience that kind of travelling. i'm kind of predicting that it would happen but not yet in this generation. maybe in the next century.
