If you want to increase traffic, you can join sites like BlogCatalog. You just have to include your website to the list and also interact with other members by visiting their sites as well. If you want to earn, there's Adgitize wherein you earn by posting, visiting other Adgitize members, and also when they visit your site. I have an Adgitize link in my profile, you can check it out and explore their site for more information. Of course, a manual way of doing it is visiting blogs and leaving comments on their sites. If you could, ask if they're open to exchanging links with you. Most of the time that's the start of increasing traffic to your blog.

I have my own blog site as well just like you. Although I started this blogosphere sept 2009 until now I am still lost and confused with this world. So what I did I just go along with the flow. I signed up different sites that exchange links and visit each other links. Like blogcatalog and linkreferral. Those sites I gained visitors from my sites but its not much they are only few visiting them. Its ok as long as I have visitors.
