My officemate "Jane" bought an iPhone 4G a week ago, he was very proud of having it, talking too much about it because it looks pretty cool having it in your hand. We go out to a bar to celebrate another officemates promotion, when we were having a drink, she so obvious using her mobile in public very visible but after a few drinks she mark that day the most terrible day of her life. She went to comfort room to pee and suddenly we herd a loud scream from her, "Ahh!!" so we run fast and checked her inside, she was crying and so pale. I asked her "What happen" she answer me "my mobile phone dive into the toilet bowl" WTf? I took some plastic bag and wore it like a gloves and fetch it without looking on it. Stinky! Messy and yuck? But thank god the Phone never work after that. Have you experienced this kind of thing? What if this happens to you, what will you do?,.

I'd get it out immediately, take out the battery and SIM card. Then I'd put them all separately in a bag of rice because rice is very absorbant (and I'm asian) :D One time I accidentally let my phone go through a full washing machine cycle and after letting rice absorb the water, I was able to use it again. Whatever you do, don't turn it off until it is completely dry. If you turn it on while it is wet, you'll short out the battery and the circuitry.

Are you still going to cooked and eat the rice after that? ;?

No cause it was a different color after the soaking. It was kind of an off-white that looked brownish and then it turned pure white so we didn't take our chances.

I would still pick it up, have it dry and if it needs some repair then I would bring it to repair shop, no way I would just leave it in the toilet bowl. It is very expensive to buy new one nowadays, in fact I am not fascinated with the brand new cellphones lately because it is very useless to wish one when my budget is screaming hard..hehe

I have never experienced this kind of "accident" because I never bring my mobile phone with me when I need to go to the bathroom. Because accidents such as these will definitely happen. For me, its like arrogance on the part of your office mate because she needs to "display" to everyone that she is using a very expensive mobile phone. And if I were there, I would leave her phone to drown.

I have never had this kind of thing happen to me and I don't expect it to ever happen. Quiet a few of my students have had their cell phones fallen into the toilet pipe and they are usually useless after getting soaked in the toilet for a long time. Also some lucky ones would still have their cell phones useful...Take care.

Apparently, this happens a lot - like 50,000 times a year. I went to a trade show, where one of the booths was selling cell phone clips and that was the selling point. They mentioned a number like 50,000; don't know how true it is but it's possible.

Charge to experience. A friend of mine did the same and retrieve it effortlessly. Then made a trip to several repair shop and they were not able to have it work again. Wet unit, they said. Did not bother to take snack since then to save faster to have a new one.

Yes. It was a squat toilet in cyber cafe. I took a long thing to get it out but never get it back. Of course I also drop my purse.

You really don't have a choice. You need to pick it up from whatever's inside the bowl...and be sorry for what had happened. Charged it to experience, and learn from it, then move on.

I make it golden rule not to hand hold my cell in any bathroom area. Years ago I had way too many experiences. My last episode was in 2004 but I bought my first Trio, Which is similar to the blackberry. However, I do pay insurance monthly for my cell so I am covered. Basically if it were to happen I would call my insurance and say I dropped my floor and it crushed completely the phone is no longer function able. Well a fifty dollar deductible but I always have cell phones that cost me well over $400 bucks so the deductible is well worth it for a brand new replacement. Did you friend have insurance, if she doesn't she probably want to consider that. The carriers charge like $3.99per month and it would have avoided having to outright buy another phone.

Never turn it on!First let him dry. If it needs a couple of days to dry let him. And after that try to turn it on. BUT the safest way will be immediately to give him to someone who's job is to fix cell phones!

Fortunately, I haven't experience such thing and I don't want such thing to happen to me.:) My, I only have one cellphone and if I lose it my mom won't buy me a new one and I can't afford to by new one either since I prioritize my school expenses...:( Hmm... but if something like this happens,I'll probably get my cellphone from the toilet bowl (I hope there's no urine or yellow submarine) and dry it up...:D

I haven't had the experience of the toilet bowl. But there was a phone I had really wanted for a while so my partner went to buy it for me as a gift. I had had the phone for around two weeks before my little girl killed it haha. I can laugh about it know, but at the time I was so upset I nearly cried. I was doing the house work and had loaded the washing machine up, I went off to get a few more thing to put in there. Shut the door, added the detergents and carried on with the cleaning. When the cycle had finished, I opened the door and started to pull out the clean washing to hang on the line. My phone fell out from amoungst the washing and hit the floor. I sat there and stared at in in silence, shock and diss belief. Gutted!! Like I said I can laugh about it now, but I was horrified at the time. My little girl was only 2 at the time and she was 'helping' mummy lol.

Eww!I have never experienced it.But one of my roomies did and many of her friends. When they were in high school, they lived in the dorm and many of them once had this kind of experiences. Some of them tried to get it out in the way you did. Some of them just left the cell phones there and asked their parents to buy them another. I think I would probably do the same as you did if it really happened(hope it never will). And I will first power it off,and then clean it with tissues and get the battery out and then try to clean the cell phone more thoroughly. And then expose it to the sun and dry it.And then see if it still works.

Wow! Some experience she got there! Did she really have to use her phone while peeing? Fortunately I haven't dropped my phone inside a toilet bowl. I've dropped my phone once on the road, it was raining and I didn't have an umbrella. I ran all the way to my house. Nearing my home, I didn't notice that the phone was already coming out of my jacket! It came out, dropped, got broken, and you know what happened. lol.

I haven't dropped anything in a toilet bowl, but I did drop my iPhone in the ocean. I was at the beach with my iPhone in my pocket. I was standing on a slippery rock, fell in the water and my phone got water damaged and never worked again.

This actually happened to one of my relatives. But luckily it was just a basic cell phone. She fished it out, and we took the battery out and the chip, cleaned it, and let it sit for a few days to let it dry out, and it still worked. I never had that to happened to me, how ever, i did dropped it on a bathroom floor one time, and me being a germ freak i didn't use my phone for like a week! LOL! But if i dropped it in a toilet bowl, i would probably put like 20 gloves on it, fish it out, get my chip out, and throw my phone a way, and scrub my chip down, and go buy me a used cell phone.

I din't experience the same way. Mine was a little different but amazing also. I dropped my Panasonic cell phone into water more than thrice. When it happened for the first time I was afraid whether my phone would be damaged. But it worked fine. At the second time, the screen turned blue so I left it aside to let it dry and after sometime it started working fine. At the third time also the whole display turned blue. I dried it. I was hopeful that it would be ok again. But, even after 2 days it did not work. So I became hopeless because I loved my phone very much. After few days I tried again and luckily found it working. These happened to me more than 4 years ago and the phone is still working fine.
