There has been a lot of talk in the media about the increase of obesity in chldren in America. Is it a problem or potential problem in your house? Does your child get enough exercise? How much recess time does your child get at school? I have been in schools where children get three recesses a day and in some where they only get one 15 minute recess at noon.

As far as recess time at school goes, I think that my daughter isn't getting enough of that. They get one 20 minute recess a day during the school day. However, in her life outside of school I like to make sure that she is spending plenty of time with play, both organized play and also free play. I would say that outside of her time at school, she tends to spend about 2-3 hours a day involved in active play.

Im glad my little girl is active no matter how i tried to feeding her she wont get a little bulge anywhere. at school during her recess you can find her on the playground running or climbing the slide. she often goes home with bruises on the knees though :)

My oldest is 5 and will start kindergarten in the fall. She has been miss busy body since day one - we have to tell her to slow down more than anything!! She loves to run around and dance. I am a figure skater, and she likes to skate as well. Her brother is only 8 months old and he seems to already love to play chase with her - so I think he will be following her footsteps as far as getting physical. I am aware that kids probably don't get enough physical playtime in at school, so our kids will definitely get into some kind of sport - whichever they choose.

I guess the problem I have with my kids is not that they aren't getting enough exercise but that they're not getting enough rest! They're playtime exceeds more than the time I allot for them and bedtime's a nightmare, no pun intended. Think my kids could be hyperactive?

My children are to young to go to school. However, they do get lots of exercise. I think it is very important. The obesity rate scares me and I do not want it to happen to me or my children. I am a Preschool Teacher, they are only here for 3 hours during the morning but out of that we go outside for 45 minutes to play, plus in class we have games like Simon Says, The Hokey Pokey, Ring around the rosie and things that keep them active =)

More and more children get too fat to affect thier healths all over the world . This phenomenon is happened not just in America . There are much reasons to lead to this phenomenon . Number one is that they eat foods so much . Secondly , they donot take exercise frequently . Do you think so ?

I guess I'm one of the kids you talk about. I have to say that school does not provide enough exercise for kids because it only requires physical education for 2 years at most. And the level of exercise is low if the kids do not want to participate. I myself think physical education is a waste of my time because I can use that time to take a class instead. If I want to get fit physically, I would join a sports team that I like. I played tennis in high school and I love it despite the rigorous training and playing outside with friends.
