Yesterday was truly a sad day for me, My old Dog Spud passed away in the wee early morning hours. I knew his time was about up, but you know how we keep hoping that well maybe he will live a little longer he was 12 years old and what better way to go than to peacefully pass away in your sleep right? He was a good friend and very protective of me for many years when I had my place out in the country. He mellowed out quite a bit living here in town, he loved all the kids and the attention they gave him. Of course he still went with me to the farm all the time and he spent most of it out there during the 4th of July holiday, he hates fireworks of any kind, He hates thunder, and guns so my big old baby spent a lot of time at the farm during the long holiday weekend. They shoot off the fireworks here right where I live its not even a half a block so he would have stroked out had he been here with me. He leaves behind two of his good friends My Cat Screamer and My Cat Scodie earlier back in May I had given my other dog Nikki away to a family here that I had become friends with they were moving out to the country ( lucky them )and they wanted a dog so I told them about my Nikki, and they of course fell in love with her they have a young son and a very young daughter so Nikki is happy I am sure with them. Today I am just "lost here" without my Dog Maybe if I put up his things here in my computer room it will not remind me so much of him and him not being here now. (sigh)!!! My baby is buried out on the farm alongside so many many many other pets I've had over my lifetime. When I die and go to heaven I am going to be stampeded by all my pets...LOL! God I miss all of them!!!

I certainly feel for you.....I had my dog for 13 years..and it's been about 6 years since he passed...I still miss him! Old Friend You stole our hearts, and gave us joy From the moment we first met. You filled a place, within our home And we never will forget! The endless love, and memories That will live through all of time For friends like you are far apart, And often hard to find. Your steadfast love, you proved to us By protecting us each day. And the lonely times you filled with warmth For you were never far away. And when time came, to say goodbye You were true until the end For there never was a more faithful one Then you, my dear old friend.

HI Jill; On that was just beautiful I am going to copy that and print it out and frame it to go along with all my other deceased pets; I have like a big old memorial type wall here in my computer room but seriously that was just beautiful!! Thank you for posting and sharing that, its hard to type again because I have tears in my eyes again but I did love that.

Your story brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of my cat, Thebes who passed away (exactly like your dog Spud) in her sleep way back in 2003. She was 19 years old and not a day goes by without me thinking about her. There have been cats before and since but none of them were like Thebes (although I loved them all dearly and continue to do so) so I know exactly what you are going through and sympathise. At least you have your cats to cuddle up to whenever you feel down..and, of course, you have us on MyLot.

Hi again Janey: Wow! your baby lived a long time 19 years old huh? I know cats as a rule live way longer than dogs do. I pray my Screamer lives that long or longer so long as she is healthy you know? Thanks again for your support, do you have a cat now or not?

Hello again! Yes, I do have a cat. She is called Flojo and is on my profile page. Mum (where Thebes resided) also has two cats called Ellie and Soxx, a mother and daughter combination. They may be on my profile page as well, I can't remember off-hand. I've always had cats. On average they have tended to live until around 12-14 so for Thebes to live until she was 19 was quite some feat!!

Your story made me cry. I lost my beloved Nera 7 months ago, and I still suffer for her lost. It is so hard when they must leave us! You may call Spud a lucky dog to pass away in his sleep. My dear Nera was ill, and for the last year of her life we tried in vain to help her. The veterinarians didn't give her a chance, so I had to take that hard decision. (you know what I mean...) She was 13 and she was near me every day of her life. Now I had another dog, I couldn't live without one. She is a handfull and she keeps my thoughts away from suffering after Nera's lost. But I still cry when I remember her. You, too, will have another dog one day, and it will ease your pain. Rest in peace, Spud.

Hello; I am sorry to hear about your dear Nera, I like that name. It's so much harder to have to go through what you did with your pet, I've had to do that too so many times with other pets or when they got hit by a car and tried to save them you know? Any situation is so stressful and painful and I am very very glad he did just go to sleep and die peacefully I know in my heart of hearts that his dear friend Precious met him on the other side and that they are running now all over heaven...LOL! They are young again, pain free and happy as can be..(G)! Yeah I'll have another dog again and it too will be very special but for now its just my cats they will get all of my attention and they too are missing him, animals are so very very smart they know of his passing, and that makes me sad too.

I hope they all are now young and happy again, too. And I hope there is peace out there, because Nera, too, was afraid of loud noises like fireworks an thunders. You are so lucky to have other animals around you in such a moment. They will surely help you go through this lost.

dreamweaverjen....I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of Spud. I can relate very well with you about feeling "lost" for as you know my beloved Pyewacket passed on April 19th and very suddenly. I still feel lost after nearly three months...he was one of my special babies and I thought I had many more years with him. It's never easy is it when we loose a pet. And yes, when I pass on from this earth, I'll be stampeded by all my former pets as well (((((((((hugs)))))))

Oh Jan! I'm so sorry about Spud. May he RIP in peace on Rainbow Bridge with all the rest of yours and all of our furbabies. I know that we will all be together again one day (although we need to stay here a bit longer). I know how awful you feel, since to me there is nothing worse than losing one of my furbabies. because as you, they are my babies. Sending you lots of love and hugs, Leslie

Hi there: Wow! you had a dog live for 15 years that's amazing!!! That must be some sort of record you know? I will get another dog someday but not just yet, I will know when the time is right. one of my neighbor kids asked me the other day how many pets, dogs & cats I've had? I laughed as I am 49 years old and grew up on a farm, Good Lord I told him I've had dozens and dozens of many many wonderful great animals, each of them very special in their own way. thank you for stopping by;

Condolence for your beloved pet. I hope he has a better place in heaven where there are no fireworks and thunder to scare him. Don't worry, you'll meet him again someday. Why don't you try to get a new dog? Anyway, I also have a 4 year old rottweiler here with me and I am also thinking about his life right now.

Awwww, I am soooo sorry. I feel your pain, I truly do. Our pets are so special and add so much to our lives that the distress we feel when we lose them is almost unbearable. At least for me it is. 4 years ago I lost my 2 beloved cats and at times I still cry if I think about them long enough. Thankfully I've filled my home with many more cats that I adore to no end. You certainly have a love for pets that I can relate to. I, too, had to take the pictures and other things of my sweeties down after they passed to hopefully keep from losing my mind entirely. There will always be that special place in our hearts for the beautiful pet companions that have made a difference in our lives. Remember that time is a great healer and that we can always find room in our hearts to love another pet. It sounds like Screamer and Scodie are pretty terrific cats. Give them a big hug from me, and have them hug you from me. Thanks.

Wow! Your story almost brought me to tears. I have four dogs of my own. My oldest dog is named Cooper and is a Blue Heeler/Cocker Spaniel mix. I've had him for about 7 1/2 years and he was a pupy when I got him. Sometimes, I think about how long I've had him. I know he's getting older but he's also got a lot of good years ahead of him...I hope. I'm sure that when his day comes it will be tough to take. That's why I'm glad I have 3 other dogs.

I didn't know you had a dog. I always think of your cat. I'm very sorry your dog passed away. At least, you got to make his life nice while he was alive. In that picture, he looked very young for his age. I'm sure it will be hard for you because a pet takes a big place in your heart. Perhaps, when some time has passed, you can invite another dog into your heart.

HI Poetry2010; Yes my pets have always been a part of my family, even when I was a kid growing up I swear my animals meant more to me than my family you know? LOL!! I believe whole-heartedly that our pets do go to heaven, that is my belief and it warms my heart to know that I will be with each and everyone of them someday. I am sorry about dear Spot too .
