Toast for breakfast.

Many people enjoy toast for breakfast and I'm wondering what toppings you enjoy. I like Vegemite which is made from yeast extract and has a strong salty taste or by comparison I like orange marmalade. These are my preferences at the moment...honey, jam, peanut butter are all on my list of toast toppers. I also love many variations of a fuller breakfast but I won't go into detail here. Do you have toast and what topping do you like? If npot toast...what do you have? Anyone here have Coke as their breafast beverage? (shudder)

Vegemite....I got my first taste of toast with vegemite here in Australia. I seem to strike an instant liking to this newly acquired taste of toast with vegemite. I like the English muffins with honey too. Bread is not a regular breakast item in Malaysia as we have lots of breakfast items to choose from like fried noodles, Indian pancake, Spicy rice with anchovies etc. But looks like I have to live on bread while here as it is the usual breakfast served here besides cereals.

You should try that out Hatley. It is yummy!! Vegemite is like bovril and I don't know why it is called vegemite. Not a trace of veggies in it. Though vegemites are sold in Malaysia but it is consumed in a different way like eating rice broth with vegemite and it is only here that I learn to eat vegemite as topping for toast.

When I was in the USA, we Aussies gave the Americans a taste of vegemite and not one of them liked it. They spread it too thick. That was their problem. The taste is too strong in large quantities!

Well personally I like to have the old fashioned peanet butter or strawberry jam but occasionally will try different things like mashing up different fruits like mangos or peaches and trying that.I love toast , the smell and the texture and think it is a real classic addition for a good full breakfast.

I love peanut butter and strawberry jam combined...delicious! I've never thought of fruit on toast, that's a novel idea. Toast is incredibly versatile...the number of things you can put on toast is endless I reckon.

I think peanut butter is one of the famous breakfast for bread in your place. It is slowly coming to Southindia and I also like peanut butter very much.

I have never had vegemite, although I understand it can be found here in the States. I do not usually do toast for breakfast, at least not right now in the summer. I do like it with just butter or margarine. It is good with apple butter and cream cheese, or all kinds of jellies and jams. Coffee for breakfast always, and maybe milk or juice.

Cream cheese is certainly delicious but I've never heard of apple butter. Just what is it Gerty?

They're a bit hard to describe Nearly an inch thick , a light dough full of holes...they have to be toasted. Best with butter and honey, the butter and honey drip through quickly. They are wonderful on a cold winter morning.

I don't like anything sweet in the morning or the first thing I eat that day. I like just plain ole butter on my toast however, at night I might have a craving for something sweet so I'll make some toast with butter and cinnamon. I have had coke for breakfast although it's not what I'd prefer. Coffee or tea or both is what I like.

Mmmmm, we would have cinnamon toast for a treat during school holidays when we were kids. But ours had sugar on it as well. It was very yummy. My tastes vary...sometimes I want sweet, sometimes salty.

I used to love vegemite on toast. It was my favourite for many years for breakfast. Honey and Jam I was also big on. I have never, ever liked peanut butter. The smell of it makes me sick. These days I have a large Raw Vegan smoothie for breakfast which keeps me going for hours. My favourite thing to have on toast these days would have to be mashed avocado with sweet chilli sauce over it! Yummo!!!

Hi Bill, how are you mate? Doesn't the chilli overpower the avocado?

The avocados have been a good price recently at under a dollar. I actually had surplus recently so I just made it into a salad with tomato and onion. I would never have thought of toast and sweet chilli sauce so I thank you kindly. When I have it, I use avo instead of butter but they are usually over $2.00 which is a bit rich for me.

Hi MsTickle, I am great thanks, how are you? It can do if you put too much on. Just a little tiny bit of sweet chilli sauce is enough to give it the kick.

Good morning Ms Tickle. I do enjoy a 100% whole wheat 5 to 9 grain bread as toast. It's full of fiber and at my age I need all the fiber I can get and it has more flavor than regular whit bread. I like it good and brown. My kids like to just run the bread through the toaster long enough to just tan it. I have never tried Vegemite. Not even sure what it is. I usually just have real butter on my toast. Some time I will put some mashed up avocado or a nut butter on it. Very seldom do I use any jams jellies or marmalades. I agree with your shudder about Coke or any other soda for breakfast and most meals. Coffee or orange or grapefruit juice is much preferred.

I been around but not posting much. Lot of reading post but just getting lazy I guess. The bread I get has several seeds in it too. but unless one has diverticulitis and we chew up the grains real good there shouldn't be any problems. The problem is always getting them chewed up real good. Sometimes they just slip by.

Hi deebomb my friend. It's been an age since I saw you.. I'm eating full grain bread these days too. The crrent one has chopped up pumpkin seeds in it...yep, fibre. Although I'm a bit worried about some of the seeds and other larger pieces in bread because they can lodge in the intestinal wall and cause problems. I'm considering going back to wholemeal rather than whole grain bread.

well, vegemite never has made a splash over here, at least not in Texas. I do like orange marmalade, but I've been putting cream cheese on raisin or cinnamon bread since I went on this diet - not a big toast fan at the best of times...

yep, one slice and a tablespoon or so of cream cheese, sure, I could toast it, but I'm not a big fan of toast - just some days I want toast, not very often - guess I kind of associate it with being sick...

I love toast. With peanut butter topping and perhaps some chocolate too? Yum2x.... that's really delicious. Honey is nice too. But for a fuller breakfast, I'd expect some boiled or half-boiled eggs, with a nice cup of warm tea or coffee.

Great to see you around once more again... and you know, seeing familiar faces makes me smile each time. Ahhhh your grandkids and you are just like me. That's because I totally love Nutella as well. We have the product here sold in Singapore...and it's just so awesome... I love to spread it over the bread and then toast it. Yum2x.. haha...

I'm not a big fan of toast for breakfast as it doesn't fill me. However, when I do make it I have some margerine and whatever type of jelly or preserves I have on it. Otherwise my lil guy likes it with just peanut butter spread on it.

Lolz.

I've heard about Vegemite (insert skeptical smiley here). I don't eat toast often, but I like it with butter or honey or jam when I do eat it. Usually I have cheerios and rice milk, or a bagel and cream cheese or eggs and sausage...

What's rice milk like? Do you have allergies? Is it rich? I'm often tempted to try various milk drinks but they are expensive and if you don't like the taste it can be a bit of a waste. Vegemite is different. Do you have fish paste over there? There is one called anchovette that is very nice...made with anchovies surprisingly When camping, my ex(#3) and I would have bacon, eggs, sausages and beans for breakfast. Yumm.

Apparently I am sensitive to milk. Rice milk, well I get the vanilla, so it is rather like vanilla flavored skim milk. I think we have fish paste, but I"ve never tried it.

Many years ago, Dad had an orchard and he grew all kinds of fruit and veggies and Mum would make jams, pickles, chutneys and stewed fruit, and bottle them . One of my favourite jams was her plum jam...it was so delicious and just wonderful on toast. It was nothing to have several slices and use up half a jar. Store bought jam simply doesn't have all the flavour that Dad's plums and Mum's jams had. Sadly, thosde days are gone now.

I just love my toast with butter and that's it. I usually indulge on it in the morning together with my mug of coffee. I also have some hotdog and bacon together with my toast. I prefer the hotdog with cheese compared to the plain one.

hi ms. tickle! i don't eat toast much now that i am grown and can choose anything i want, ha! i am an avid pop tarts fan! but when i was with my parents, toast was a frequent breakfast choice for us! i liked mine sandwiched with peanut butter, butter and honey! does that sound caloric or what? yes, and i do drink diet coke at breakfast...and lunch, and dinner and all other times of day and night...

I'm going to tell you something truly sad now psycho (may I call you psycho?), I have never had a pop tart.. Sure, I've heard of them but I've never even seen one. I'm in therapy and I'm sure I will rise from the depths of pop tart despair one day. I'm not a fan of soda in general unless it has something stronger in it. I'm a bit of an over indulger in instant coffee (especially at night when I sometimes put a little something stronger in it).

Personally for me, there is nothing better than a good slice of toast or two any time of day. Especially when my stomach is a little upset due to a migraine or other medications I might be taking as well. For me, I usually enjoy either just butter or butter and peanut butter on them. Makes for a good wholesome snack for sure.

I've been making a wholehearted effort to cut down my food intake lately. I'm finding that a piece of toast with a light spread of margarine fits the bill when I get one of those cravings for "something" and you don't know what it is.

Oooh never heard of vegemite before and it doesn't sound so good, but won't knock anything I haven't tried. I know when I was a kid my father put weird stuff on his bread, like lard with salt or mustard with raw onions but haven't heard of yeast extract on your toast. I have one piece of toast every morning for breakfast. I put peanut butter on mine without any butter or margarine, and thinly like I was putting normal butter on. I am not hungry first thing in the morning so the reason I have anything at all is because I take my pills and vitamins in the morning and have to have something to eat with them. I do have my breakfast a little later in the morning, about 2 hours after getting up but I have to have my toast before my breakfast. Have a good day, your friend Chris

I just love the toast, i`d eat it every moment of the day, but for my health, i eat it only in the morning, with a cup of milk or tea. I use peanut butter, with strawberry jam, or berries, very delicios combination, and sometimes if i don`t have peanuts butter, i use the regular butter.

You have to have butter (or marg) with peanut butter, otherwise the toast is just too dry and the peanut butter more likely to stick to the roof of your mouth.
