I saw the news 2 months ago that a crew ship was hijacked in sea of the coast of Africa by some Somali Pirates... Is this for real, do they really plunder the ships? One of the prisoners escaped and told his tale that the pirates used a freely floating ship with no power as their natural prison.. prisoners were then negotiated for ransom to their individual countries. If this is true, how come the coast guards don't spot this prison ships at sea? If there are still pirate activities in this modern times, its really horrible. Do you think there are still Live Pirates in the Carribean? in any parts of the globe? Why do you think they still exists?

yeah. pirates in the sea still exist. my husband is a seaman, a chef cook in a cargo ship which travels around the world. there was this one time when they are in norway going to china. instead of traveling it for just a few days by going up the globe where they will pass through somalia, and where pirates most attack, they travel down the globe which cost them 29 days. the captain of their ship did not sacrifice their lives by saving time, food and fuel in their travel.

Beside the Somali, there are also pirates in the Straits of Malacca. In order to protect the waters, the government of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia decided to set up a task force to patrol the waters. It seem to pay off as the numbers of pirates attack drop significant. So, yes, pirates do exist. However they do not appear in the form of the Sparrows and Jones.

Yes, of course, like you mentioned, there are quite a few around the coast of Somalia for instance. But they are hardly like they are portrayed in the movies, reality is very far from that, and they are probably driven to this out of poverty. There are also a lot of laws regarding piracy in international law, which proves that there is still a need for that.
