Do you fellow mylotters get so used to being able to email anyone any time you want, then have a problem sending it? And how irritated do you feel? My son tried to talk me into fixing the problem but the things he told me just did not work. He put an imap account on my iriswell.com email account, Somehow he did not change the name so the old email address is now longer valid and hence my email willnot load and send. Frustration and impatience set in as I tried to do all the things he told me over the phone but I am not as technically savvy as he is, so he asked not to use thunderbird'for my email but a different email client. fine I got on to this client ' and it ran so slow that not only was i not able to respond to all my 'wonderful mylot friend's discussions but in a few minutes it crashed'my computer completely. So I had no choice but to go back to Thunderbird and catch up if I can on all the discussions. So until he comes to see me Saturday I cannot email out.gggrrrr. What does a snafu like that do to the rest of you? I hate it that I am not a lot more computer savvy.

Oh dear - For now let me leave you with a hope that you will surely move into an apartment together soon enough... do you want me to take a shot at it for that as well? Are you brave enough to hear it?

hi ElicBxn oh how nice a brand new computer. thats one way of getting things fixed.lol my son came to see my last night bearing a telephone thatis really nice, and a flashlight I need at night to go to the bathroom as my roomie now has two walkers and leaves them right where I have to walk to make my nightly bathroom trip; he sat me down and helped me by showing me what to do then letting me do it; we got the client bit straightened out then tried to email comes back bad user name. My user addy has somehow acquired a period where one did not belong; a simple process of deleting the period;now my email works fine.

Hi ElicBxn. How'd you get a geek? I got a friend in IT at work who helps me out once in a while, but that would be much better! Having a geek of your own. ...of course, no offense to the geeks.

WOW! sounds like something I might get into. I hate dealing with the technology of these brain boxes and yes I had one incident a long time ago that nearly sent me over the edge and I could not send either. I had to call a tech who was an idiot........and after watching him, I figured out what I did wrong.......so, girl, hang on to your hat and Saturday will be here before you know it. Sorry. quita

hi quita my son came by really late last night,I mean for here, and brought me a new phone, and a new flashlight. He checked the setting and my email server was just checked for an old address so that was easy to fix, then still would not send out my email ,,said bad user name, and the only thing wrong was there was a period in the wrong place, one lousy period that spoiled my whole day. like my son said I must watch the details as a user name won't load if there are any punctuation marks in the wrong place= so do not have to wait til Saturday after all.

OH Goodie ! You got that brain box working ! I know how irritated you were too. But, your son is right, one out of place period can mess up the whole works. I wish you were here with me right now. I'd put you to work sewing. You do sew don't you? I just got a new sewing book :) it's great and has soooo many new ideas that are easy as pie to do ! You and I could whip out all sort of things and make craft fairs and flea markets and even yard sales. I think it would be fun. I am so glad you got the puter working :) Do take care and hugs, quita

Hi Hatley, Do not get so frustrated! At least you can still log in here and vent your frustrations! Are there very urgent things for you to settle via email? If not, just let it be for a while, let your son handle it, and when he does that, you can watch and learn from him. Maybe you will become more computer savvy then.

hi bluemoonpavilion my son surprised me last night by dropping in and showed me what was wrong, then let me correct it and it was fairly simple too,Wrong default server in the box so moved the right one over, and bad ' user name. one simple little period that did not belong in my email addy at all. deleted it and test email went through in seconds. all a matter as my son said of paying attention to the little details. The dot that stopped email from going out.lol lol The reason I felt so frantic other diabetics would understand but others may not, I missed going shopping yesterday morning, and am out of hard candy which for most people is sure not a big need. but as I almost inevitably go low at night I must keep some on hand all the time, in fact I am told to carry them in my purse also. I was out and needed to ask my best friend Nelda if she could stop by on the way home from work and take me to Riteaide to make several quick purchases. Now I am okay to email her. we email eachother every day to keep intouch.

I had three hundred emails backed up on the hottest eve of the year. wow. but its great to be back in business again.

Hi Hatley, Sorry for not grasping your situation. Are you able to phone Nelda the next time instead of using email? You must be prepared for the next emergency! Good of your son to stop by, he must have sensed your panic.

Oh Hatley, I feel your frustration reaching out and grabbing me by the throat...we have a lot in common. It's so annoying when we "do something" and it causes something else to go wrong then we seem to make matters worse and confuse ourselves further when we try to reverse what we did or fix things. I have spent hours like this lately when I again downloaded Messenger....wondering why I deleted it in the first place. Messenger worked fine but Hotmail began to act very strangely then someone said my account had been hacked. I fixed that problem by buying a new laptop...problem solved....lol.

Thankfully it has been over four years since I've had a major problem with my email. However, when I did have the problems with my email and my internet connection, it was absolutely terrible for me. You see, our IP provider was going through a lot of changes and there was a period of about two months that our access was spotty at best and though we were paying our regular prices for our service, we were getting service that was dismal at best. I couldn't read and respond to email and I couldn't even get online to check the weather on certain days.

hi dorannmwin myson showed up Wednesday night and within a few minutes he showed me my two errots the email client thing with the new changes was not in the default box so I did it my self, then he sent a test still not working bad user name okay he pointed to my email address and to my shock somehow a period had come put after my name and before the@ sign, thus making it invalid. So I deleted the period and tried to email out and it was sent in seconds. Like my son said its all in the details. I had not even noticed that silly period..So I was back in business.

Hi Hatley. Like you I wouldn't consider myself as computer savvy. Unfortunately, in our house, I am the one responsible for fixing snaffus like what you mentioned. I've been lucky so far, that I've been able to figure out recent problems. It also helps if you have an IT friend at work which you could ask questions. It doesn't happen often, but like you said, I hate it when it happens.

I did that. and tried the email still refused to send but it said bad user name. my son pointed at it and I felt so stupid there was a period where it did not belong , after my user name and before the @ sign. so of course it would not go out.I deleted the period, and my email was sent in five seconds.

Aww, that's terrible Hatley! What a pain in the neck it must be. I don't have the problem of sending emails but my one daughter, has trouble RECEIVING them from me. I have already had 5 of her emails sent back to me because they couldn't get through. I told her to clean out her email box as it might be too jammed, and it was. She has AT&T Yahoo mail but I think one of the filters is really stopping my emails from getting through. She's the only one I have trouble with. Plus, sometimes if she does get them, it's a week later. Well, that doesn't help either. She finally deleted a whole bunch of stuff, and now it seems to be working a bit better. What a pain!

I deleted it and voila It works. back in business.

Hi, hatley most of us here seem to have no computer savvy. It's okay if you can learn a few things every time you experience problems with your computer. I do learn something whenever my computer fails. I know this learning process will never come to an end.

hi bijayanths you know how little details can stop things. well I kept getting bad use name, my son came lastnight unexpectedly, and he pointed to something in my email addy and thereit was one lousy period where it should not have been, I deleted the period, made a test email to myself, and of course it went through. all that worry because of a tiny period. so I learn on my computer every day.

I'm not real savvy when it comes to technical stuff on the computer. Fortunately my ISP is Verizon, so I call technical support on occasion. Most of the time they are helpful. Sometimes I get frustrated because the support person speaks with a heavy accent and I have a hard time understanding what he's saying! I know how frustrating it is when you can't do something you're used to being able to do -- it's like part of you has been cut off and grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It's going to be okay -- real soon -- hang in there!

hi joyceshookery. the problems came out verysimple. I had the wrong email server name so we put itin the right box, that part was simple, the next makes me blush bad user name, okay looked at my email addy and there was one tiny little period where it should not have been dot com is fine but a dot anywhere else thatwas not in the given email addy just will not fly. in other words the little details if you are not careful can stop things. deleted the dot, tried a test email and it works perfectly now ,my son was here last night and pointed them out to me. all fixed now.

hi dawn yes I wanted to ask my best friend if she could stop by after work today and take me to riteaide so I can renew my emergency low blood sugar supplies.but my wonderful son did come bye last night as its just too hard to relay how tos on thephone. he showed me that it w as simply a matter of moving the right email client name into the right slot, then I still could not send out, bad user name, so we checked and I wanted to crawl into a hole. it was a lousy period in front of the @ sign that made it a bad user name; I delted the lousy period and whee, my email sent out in seconds. for me the email is really a safety line so its essential too.

Ms. Hatley yes me too. my email wont load for 2 consecutive days and i tried fixing it using the possible remedies i have known but in vain.. i called the IT and they said that possible reasons might be the installation of softwares that it is not compatible with the computer OS version. the original programs that has been installed might conflict with the newly installed one so i need the newly installed one to be freed-out.

hi kumar well my son dropped by last night and helped me trouble shoot, he had changed my email client thing twice and this last time forgot to make the new change as default so I did that under his directions, then we got bad user name, and of all things I had a period after my name and before the @ sign so just a matter of deleting the period then testing it and my email is now sending out in just seconds. sounds like you need to uninstall some software, I had a problem with blue screen because the virus protection I had was not compatible with my OS either so my son uninstalled it and put in Avira and no more problems. Avira seems to be a great virus protection too. hope you can get you email problem fixed to Kumar.
