My mum has her laptop all set up and she even has wireless.Last night i was trying to show her a few things on her laptop, aswell as showing her how to get to a few sites.I have made it easy for her as i have put a few main sites of hers on the top bar as her favourites. She wanted to join a few sites aswell as a demo in how to work them and how to shut the laptop down. She likes certain games so she book marked them on face book. I think she has got the hang of it now, aswell as she is pleased to be able to play bingo on another site she joined knowing that i am on it.

That's good, it was my own son and daughter who showed me the basics too, since they had to use a computer in school. It's wonderful you took the time to show her how to use the internet jugs..;)

I think that it is great that she can now get to have more fun aswell as play those games she hears all about from my children. She has had to ring me a few times tonight as she could not work out a few things, but the way i see it is that we all had to learn.

Awww, that is soooo nice of you to do Jugs! Most people, and I'm referring to alot of the responses, don't have the patience to do this. All I can say to them is, wait until you're that age, lol! It's great she wants to learn and even play the games, awesome! Having a daughter or son that is willing to teach is well respected in my book. I commend you and I'm sure your Mum really, really appreciates it!

Oh, I'll tell ya, I've been using the computer for years now, and you know what? I know the tip of the iceberg...I am in no way computer savvy. I had a little help in the beginning and it took me a while to finally realize I will not blow this thing up, HAHAHA!!! Nowadays, all the kids come out of school knowing computers like the back of their hands and they've been taught it for years. That's where they have to remember older people did not have this so I'm glad you remember back to when you first started. It is mind boggling. If I have a big problem with my computer now, I try to do a search and come up with the answer because someone out there has to have the same problem. That's how I taught myself how to cut and paste, clear my cashe, chase viruses out haha, all kinds of stuff. I've been selling on Ebay for years and that was all self taught. My daughters knew nothing about computers years ago and I was teaching them what little I knew. Now they have by far passed me up completely and are back to helping me once in a while. One thing I'm all lost on is Facebook, lol!, I feel so duh. Your Mom will be so happy after a couple of weeks, she's going to love it! Don't be surprised if she asks you if you have anything you want her to sell on Ebay, lol! Good for her and more power to her!

I’m glad your mother is getting the hang of it. My sister bought herself a new laptop and is considering giving her old desktop which is still in fine condition to my parents. To this I said, “No way!” If she does I am not ever going to visit them! I learnt not to bother getting my parents up to date with anything technological. They bought a cell phone which they’ve had for over a year and still have not mastered! Every time my mother sends me a message I can guarantee that I will receive at least three blank one before the real one arrives, although sometimes it sits in her drafts and she wonders why I have not replied! So can you imagine them attempting to surf the Net or send and receive emails? As I said, no way!!

Just take it easy.Maybe your parents can participate in internet course rather than master it from your teaching.I believe a formal teacher in this domain will do well in teaching those who know nothing about internet.Be more patient,it is quite normal for the old to learn high-tech much harder, like we young people usually can't do housework patiently and well like them.

Good for you that you had the patience to "train" your Mum on her laptop. I reckon it would take me 44 not 4 hours to train my Mum up! She's not thick..no way is she thick..she just prefers to watch me on the net rather than being trained up to use it herself. It would be lovely if she DID have a laptop though because I live 100 miles away and - even though she has my Dad there she chooses to watch TV in the back room and he watches his in the front room...been that way for years. If she had a laptop it would be something different for her to do and she would learn loads of things too..like I do..daily!

My mum also use to watch me aswell as my children on our laptops and pcs,she kept asking me could she have a look at shopping sites when she was over here, now she can at home. She rang me up tonight as she was unsure of a few things,so i talked her through how to do things and she was fine thankfully.

I reckon that once my Mum has learned how to use the internet it would open up a whole new world for her. For starters, I wouldn't have to keep ordering stuff on her behalf (which I don't mind) but it would be lovely if she had her own machine. One day I will buy a laptop and have it based at her house so that when I'm not there she can use it! That's a long time off though but it's something I've been thinking about for ages. Glad your Mum is doing OK. The more she uses it the more confident she will become, I'm sure..with your help.

It is very important that all the persons learn to use the computadores, Internet because nowadays it is very useful for almost all the activities, and forms a of enjoying the free time. It is a very good action to try to teach your mother to him, not to lose the patience and to respect his times, because for those who are mas big it is as that they do not want or they do not like the technology.

I've spend many hours trying to show my mum, I bought her a laptop awhile back and all that happens is she allows my father to steal it. I mean, he's always on it and when he isn't and I'm over I try to show her but it doesn't really work out. (as she forgets) I really think my dad should focus on sharing it and teacher her as I will probably have to for sometime.

hi jugsjugs my son spent three hours here showing me how to get on my facebook account and i had a whole bunch of people who wanted to be my friend but sorry my dear my lot friends, as I do not know some of you by your real names so come again and tell me your mylot and real names so I can accept your offers. I did recognize a few as they gave their mylot user names like the ex Lambie and Lori. That was so sweet of you Jugsjugs as us older ones do need some help from our adult kids. So now I am on facebook as well as mylot. more fun again too.

Hiya jugs, Sounds like your Mom is having fun there. It´s always great to learn new things. I would love to be able to play the odd game but this ai´nt my computer so I have to enjoy watching other people play. Just some time I am going to have my own computer to play on all I want just wait and see and I can play Bingo all I want as well. I love playing Bingo without real money though. Just for the fun of it.

Your mother is lucky because she got someone who is patient enough to teach her how to maximize the use of her laptop. We also have one in our house but most of the time it is used by my daughter. Whenever i use it i am very careful because i am not so familiar with computer works and my daughter is not so patient in teaching me. Actually, i have a computer assigned to me in my office but i usually use it for office works that i dont have the time to explore and use its other features.

Hi dear, You have done a good job. Let your mother also engaged in her free times and enjoy the net advantages and good feelings via net. Normally, we all are more indulged with all these things. Many are not aware of such things. You taken an appropriate step for it. It is better you thought that people who are busy in other works at home are not needed such things. Now these all are a common thing and at home each and everyone should aware of such basic things as it become our part of the daily life. Best regards, Thank-s

How good you are. I'm self taught and at first I had a very close relationship with the Help Desk. LOL. My partner at the time had a little bit of computer experience but it had been a very long time ago, still, he was a good source of information. I remember I bout Windows 98 for dummies and also a book for Lotus but I never did figure out how it works....such a waste. A couple of years ago my daughter gave me a printer and I was trying to print some photos but they were not coming out right. She has been back to visit 4 times since then and I have been asking her to show me how to do it but it hasn't happened yet. You are a good daughter.

That's so nice of you. I have learned that more and more older people are joining the computer age. One thing I did notice last year was that Facebook seems to be the choice of people over 50 compared to My Space. I got on it last year and really enjoy it and even play a few games. Your mom is welcome to come play with me. LOL!

Good for your mum. An elderly friend of mine recently got an ipad and it is so neat to be able to email her photos and chat her up without having to resort to snail mail or the phone. Time well spent!
