i was in an elevator and overheard 2 guys talking about mixed martial arts one guy was bragging about being a black belt and that he can go into any fight and come out a victor sheesh! a black belt does not guarantee you a win... well it does if your opponent is a complete idiot and doesn't know how to throw a decent punch but in most cases you will not be assured a win a fight is never going to go exactly the way you plan it... unless it's choreographed most fights end up on the ground what a black belt equips you is years of training which will set your mind to the task at hand which is to protect yourself and neutralize you foe this is easily done by doing either of the following 1. never get into a fight 2. be very observant of your surroundings and get out when things look like they're going to get ugly 3. run 4. ask for assistance from the authorities 5. talk your way out of a fight 6. swallow your pride and ego 7. be disciplined... knowing how to break bones is not a license to do so but if you ever do get in a fight... make sure you keep yourself safe at all times and neutralize the situation within 10 seconds. this can usually be done by going for the critical hit areas like the solar plexus and/ or the groin. and then run as far away as possible and tell the cops or ask for help don't be a hero unless you really, really have to. There is no reset button in life and the consequences of our actions last a lifetime

This made me think of what my She-haun used to say , "There will always be some one better in a fight the you, no matter how good you are".

that is a very old saying and so very true even a 5 year old can knock me out given the right tools and opportunities even if your opponent doesn't really know anything... if luck is against you... you will fall :D

I totally agree with you chipesterkhan. Usually, people who brags about their black belt are those who have little knowledge of what a black belt means. This happens when people practices martial arts in a too commercial (business like) set up wherein you can "buy" a black belt in a couple of months. I have been practicing FMA and it took me almost five years to get one. However, I slowly faded away from the aggressive form of art because I have noticed that the art is slowly loosing its traditional value. People acquires black belt so easily and giving them false self-confidence which is really dangerous not just to people around them but most importantly to themselves.

chipesterkhan great discussion as it makes us think, I like to be made to think. the advice you get is really all encompassing so can add little to it. Yes a black belt can help you to know when to pick your fights and when to get the hell out of there. even women with black belts sometimes come up against someone'who is much better,so its best to get out while you have a chance It is stupid to be a hero and get bones broken or plain lose your life.

I think it is still best to avoid fights to avoid meeting problems.
