Trying to remember the name of a story

This is driving me crazy! I read a science fiction short story years ago and I am trying to find out the name of it. What I remember is there's a car that never stops because of a computer error, its become a legend. No one in the story actually believes it until they see the car go past. I've been doing searches for days! Can someone please point me in the right direction.

If I had seen this about 10 minutes ago when I had my husband on the phone, he would know, he is a big sci-fi fan and he probably knows..If you still don't have an answer when I talk to him again, I will let you know..:)

I was able to talk to my husband for a little bit and he said he will call back..But he thought maybe it was called "Christine" Here is a link about it, could this be the story you were thinking about?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_(film)

Okay, if this isn't it, then my husband asked if there are any more details you can remember. Like was it fantasy or a real car? What about the time, was it set in the 1950's? Or earlier or later? And you said story, was it ever a movie or on TV? Like I said, he knows about every sci-fi.Some that ther sci-fi fans don't even know about..

no Christine is the stephan king novel, this is a short story that takes place in the future. Two people are told this story in a cafe and they don't believe it is real. Until they see the car go by. I read it in a literature book in junior high so its been a while

This sounds very interesting. I have goggled it as well and can't seem to find anything of sorts, but now you make me really curious to find this story and read it. I can see why it stuck in your mind, it is truly something one won't tend to forget after a first read.
