Maybe that'd be too kind for them.... Look what one slug passing itself off as a member of the human race did... event:http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20100726_Kitten_found_stuffed_in_library_book_drop.html The person who did that should be shoved in a hot dry box for a day or so and see if HE likes it. (I'm guessing its a he, but in this case its more of a term for anyone masquerading as a member of the "human race.") I just don't get it. I hope the little guy survives!

Thanx Lamby, AFTER the second try. Sweetie, this is what we do. We tie his hand and feet and hang him upside down for a week, without any water or food. That ought to bring him to his senses. TATA.

ElixBxn- The lack of humanity in our society at times overwhelms me with a deep sorrow. I sometimes wonder how people have become so brutal, even if we are animals. We supposedly have something animals do not possess, but when I read such cases I wonder if that is an absolute or a hit or miss. It was a miracle that someone found this poor kitten and was able to get it the help it needed. The poor dear! I would hope that Artemis would serve justice to the person responsible for such cruelty. Namaste-Anora

A few years ago some jerk in Florida left his dog in the car and he was given a choice of suffering what his dog did or 3 days in jail. He chose the car and spent 3 days in the hospital. Unfortunately, they were able to pull him through. Thank God the dog was alright, too, after days in the vet hospital. People who do things like that should be locked away from society and sterilized.

it's really a sad news, sometimes there are some sick people who do nasty deeds and very inhuman, but come to think of it, there are lots of news everyday about bombing, massacre, rape, and other heinous crimes and all these perpetrators should be shoved in a hot dry box, as you said

Sad thing is that some of the pounds actually have a night deposit similar to that. It's horrible any way you look at it.

Your assumption about the person who did this being a 'he' would be statistically correct. The age of the person would be anywhere from early teens to late 30's. The motive for this? Don't know, but the fact the kitten was left in a place where it was guaranteed to be found would suggest that the person wanted it to receive veterinary care but couldn't afford the cost. The person knew that the kitten would be found relatively quickly and that the appropriate medical care would be given, so can we say it was a 'heartless' act? Not really. The kitten could easily have been killed and dumped in the rubbish, which would have been a 'heartless' act.

Yes, the right thing would be to take little kitten to the rescue shelter, but in some countries, if you surrender an animal, you end up on the welfare radar (and not just for animals either). I'd prefer for people to take their animals to the shelters, but there could be any number of reasons why a person can't. The person could be on probation for something, and surrendering the animal to a shelter could have been a violation of that probation. I try to look at all perspectives and work out all possible scenarios. That's what my job will be soon for local law enforcement

Hit the post comment button too soon . Yes, the person should be shot. With a hyperdermic needle to give them a boost of common sense

Don't get me started. About 2 weeks ago, a woman brought two kittens back to the adoption center. She had been calling for over a month, b*tching that her husband had adopted these two kittens even though she hates cats. She told us they had an eye infection. And then she left the two kittens shoved into a small room or garage or something, no affection, just food and water, no treatment for the eye infections for over a month before she brought them back. Their eyes were really awful by the time we got them. She had done nothing whatsoever to treat them, and apparently her stupid husband didn't either. And as soon as one of our volunteers picked them up, instant purr. Poor babies. If only there were a fool proof idiot test that we could do when deciding whether or not it's OK to allow somebody to adopt a pet.

I have to say that as much as I didn't like Danielle with Cat's Angels, she did really well... first, she NEVER placed a cat at the adoption event, and she called vets and landlords and the like. The only return I knew about was with Roxie, and that was a case where the other cat and Roxie didn't get along, and I have to say, we've nearly gotten Roxie back for the same reason...

I wonder how the kitten is as well. I can't think they did, after all, it didn't get checked but once a day. I think that's why they lock most of the drop boxes that are outside our libraries around here.

I don't understand how anyone can be so cruel to a cute harmless kitten. With this type of person, I guess they could have done something worse to him, but it is hard to imagine what. At least he is getting good care now, hopefully he will be alright!

I'm sure the cat is fine. I'm unsure of the fact this article is true. It could be, or it could not be. However, one thing is true, some people are cruel to animals. I used to fall for articles like that too, but i wised up. However, you have to remember, people are considered animals too, and survival of the fittest comes true when you see another human doing a deplorable act.

Any one that treats an animal or a child or anyone with an form of mistreatment or cruelty should be bound by the same type of cruelty that they dished out or something equally as bad as they gave! I truly believe this to be a law waiting to be written! Poor animals and children are so trusting and so innocent this allows people to mistreat them horribly as well as the fact that they just can not defend themselves. The people that will or do hurt them are nothing but cowards of the worst kind!!!

Stories like this make me do darn angry and I would dearly love to grab the individual that placed the kitten in the book drop box and shove him or her in a confined space for a day or so! Grrrr!!! I hope the little kitty pulls through; I’m sure he won’t have any problems finding a home, he is so sweet...Why not take him straight to the rescue centre? Heartless idiot, who ever did this...

There are alot of nasty people out there that cause alot of distress to all animals.I think that if there were stronger sentences on treating animals wrong then there would be alot less of it going on.There seems alot more people dumping cats nowadays for some reason, aswell as taking kittens away from their mothers too early.
