Yesterday I took Dearra shopping for school clothes. We got to talking about I don't know what, and she started one of her Abercrombie rants. A lot of kids at her last school were into Abercrombie, and she just didn't get it, so there were a lot of Abercrombie rants like, "why would I want to spend four times what something is worth just to get something that is boring looking just because it's popular?" Anyway, she made the comment that "I dare to be different. And I have a left hand." I looked at her, with this "I'm figuring this one out" look on my face. And she says, "something about that wasn't right." Pause. "Oh, hahaha, of course I have a left hand. I meant, I'm left handed." So we laughed all the way to the car. See, it isn't always the old people who think one thing, but it comes out all wrong...

I get that way to a lot more then I would like. I especially when I am typing and tired it all comes out wrong. Cool, I am left handed also. I feel silly and stupid when that happens.

True, it does depend on who is here to witness it or hear it. I have done many things that have been stupid before..Like putting stuff in the fridge that didn't go..and other things.

I've fallen to those traps before! I would be in a meeting and we would talking about a particular spreadsheet software. I would make a comment about some function that I find interesting. The next thing I know I've been assigned a project that uses that software! ...sometimes I should just learn to zip my mouth shut!

Hi, dawnald, I dont get some words you mentioned above. Those are 1)"I took Dearra shopping..." what is meant by Dearra? and 2)What is the meaning of Abercrombie?

Dearra is my daughter and Abercrombie is "Abercrombie and Fitch", a store that a lot of teenagers like to shop at.

Hello Dawnald. A lot of people here wear Abercrombie, loads of designer shops sell it. You probably know it's full name is Abercrombie and Fitch and some people poked fun at it by selling T shirts with AppleCrumble and Fish so I bought one just to be different :) Talking of people saying things wrong my nephew once told me he didn't feel well because he had a headache in his ear, he was only 3 at the time but we laughed for ages about that one :)

You could try Ebay that's where I got mine from. I saw a bloke on TV wearing one so had a look and found one, quite cheap too :)

Instead of "I have a left hand", she meant to say that she was left handed.

So that's why I never tried to fit in? I'm lefthanded too. I find that I love being lefthanded and if I don't fit in so be it. Dearra sounds like an old soul. I like her. Please tell her Lefthanders Day is August13th.

Hi dawnald, I agree that you don't have to be old, but I do find it happening more often now lol! We are only as old as we feel and I still feel young. I like the "I dare to be different" bit as it shows real spirit. I think I have a left hand too, at least I did the last time I checked. Tell Dearra, there is nothing wrong with daring to be different. We need a lot more young people with that kind of attitude. Blessings.

Come one Mom, I knew exactly what she was saying. It could be because I have lived many years with someone who is left handed and I know he feels he travels a different path from the main stream. But I can tell you that my mouth suffers many times from brain disconnect.

Well that is a relief! I thought it was just oldies like me that can not match the mouth with the brain! Your story reminds me of the time my daughter was about three or so, walked up to me looking miserable while holding her head and she said, “Oh mummy I’ve got a yukkyache!” Clearly she was referring to a headache and although I was concerned with her pain I had to laugh, she looked so serious! Kids are priceless...

Yes, they are. I remember when my nephew was little, helped him self to some sparkling water, spit it out and said, "eeww, that's that yucky water, isn't it?"

That is pretty funny and it definitely sounds like something that would come out of my mind. Well, as far as the Abercrombie stuff goes, I dare to be different as well because I refuse to pay so much money for the clothes that I wear. I would much rather buy things that are nearly as good of quality but cost me a lot less than the trendy brands that people tend to buy. I hope that when my daughter gets a little bit older that she will think the same way that Dearra does.

Dearra is brilliant! and not only does she have a left hand, she knows how to use it, unlike most of us. In addition, do not tell her this, but only lefthanded people are in their right minds.

Hi, Dawn! When kids mix up what they meant to say, it's cute! When we older folks do that, we're slipping. It's all in the perception! Your kids are a joy, as you certainly know!
