I get ragged on alot for always checking the dates on things but especially soda. Im a big soda drinker and it infuriates me when Im in the street thristy stop at a store and I have only one drink prefrence (Dr.Pepper) and they have it but the date has expired. Is there a job for this? Because Im good at this. Then I go to the counter and I let them know your sodas are expired you need to get them off the shelf. I cant stand it. I will go store to store until I get my soda. My family hates that I do that but have you ever drank an expired soda or juice, OMG nasty, and bitter and for soda extra sweet and after you get a stomach ache something awful and you cant figure out why. Let me know if you check dates and if you dont you really should.

I used to work in retail. Where I worked we sold perishable items such as chips and soda. it was part of our job responsibilities to make sure the dates were current on everything. As a consumer, i still check the dates on everything I buy. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I figured that someone who works in the stores should be checking the dates on things if its expired than it needs to be off the shelf period. I dont know some people dont care about the dates but anything that has a date its for reason. Thanks :)

I am sooooo much like you! I got food poisoning about twenty years ago-- landed me in the hospital for three days. Ever since then, I check expiration dates on EVERYTHING! I think I may have a bit of OCD!

That must of really been awful, but I dont think you have OCD its just your being extra cautious being that you had a bad expereince and if thats the case Im OCD all the way.. ;)

Hi Nadia, I work at a store. The vendors are supposed to check dates when they bring new product in but I know they sometimes overlook things. It is good if customers bring it to our attention because then we can remove it from the shelves and make sure that we get credited by the vendor. It's always good to check the dates. I do have to add that the expiration date on the soda and some other things is way earlier than the actual date that the product goes bad. In fact, my boss has given me soda that has been out-dated by months and there is not a thing wrong with it. That date is just the last date that we can keep it on the shelf. It will still be good for the customer for a long time after. It's a marketing thing and it keeps their products moving. Other things such as dairy products, breads, chips and cereals....the expiration date(last date we can sell it) is probably much closer to the date that it will not be good.

Hi, NadiaAllStar. Yes, I always check out the date on soda and chips. I do so for anything that I eat and buy. I have tasted an expired drink and it did not taste so good either. Young's Food Store and Piggly Wiggly had expired drinks that were no good. The date was old and past due. I always check the dates on my products that I buy. I don't want to be surprised at eating or drinking something that is stale. The stores should periodically check to make sure that they are not selling any expired foods or drinks.

If I am purchasing a soda from the convience store, I always look at the date. They are famous for having old stock in the cooler and putting it out becuase someone didn't follow the rule of First in First out, so they have already sold the newer stuff and the old out of date stuff is still there.

Always. Not just soda but everything I buy from the supermarket. fortunately, i haven't found one that has been sitting on the shelf that has passed expiration date. i missed out on one occasion though-- from the groceries by in-laws sent us--a Macaroni and cheese in a box. i think it was last December, after coming back from a three-day vacation at my sisters-in-law, and learning that a burglar had just ransacked our house, the ref is empty and all i have are canned goods and easy to prepare foods. my five-year old son needed a quick meal and asked for that Macaroni. A couple of hours after, he went back and forth the john because of an upset stomach. i thought he would be okay later, while we were sleeping, however, his condition worsen, so i had to contact his pedia right away. from then on i never forget to check every label from everything before consuming it.

Yes, I always check the expiration dates on every foods I bought. If it has only two months from the expiration date, I will not buy it. Once I bought instant noodle with two months to it's expiration date. It tasted and smell awful. So, I made it a point to check the dates, every time.

i do, it's better to be safe than sorry. normally, anything that has expired already creates a civil war in my tummy...can't have that definitely. of course the people here tend to take them lightly saying the label states best before a certain date so after that, it's no longer in its best quality, it just has a good quality. it's a joke but not really.:)

I check the dates on milk, yogurt, cheese and many other things that I buy. When I buy cheese and things I want the exp date to be as long away as possible so I have a chance to use it. My husband checks the dates on everything and also to make sure the lid is on tight. I didn't check the lid one time and got moldy speghitti sauce it was gross. I know that I can go beyond the date on some items like eggs they last a while. Also lettuce from the store last longer then the sale by date. I get the romane hearts and as long as you don't cut them they will last a bit. I try to put dates on my leftovers as well. My husband is really picky about that but he has gotten pretty sick from bad food a few times. Take him to the hospital sick. So I have thrown things out just to make him feel better. I have to check the date on frozen items as sometimes they get pushed to the back of my freezer. I have not had an expired soda but I am sure that it would not taste good. I drank some water and it had expired it tasted really stale luckly it was just a sip. I know there was a case where bisquick made someone sick because it was expired.

Yes, i do always check the date on drinks especially if its milk or juice. Althought sodas have longer fresh duration than milk or juice but still it has caused problems to me like stomach ache as you mention and thats when i too got into this habit of checking dates.
