How do I check RAM/memory usage/availability?

I know how to check the hard drive for usage, but how do I check my RAM to see how much I have left? I have 512MB...PC is old... but I don't have lots of stuff downloaded like games and programs and such. But I know RAM is what keeps the things available for what I do use...so since I am having a horrible time getting my PC to power up....and I have checked so many things and even did a system restore to a point last month...it still literally takes a long time. THis morning it was 15 minutes. So before I do anything more drastic (me and PC drasticness don't get along) I want to check my memory to see if it is overloaded. But how? And if you know... please instruct in the "check your memory for dummies" version. thanks very much.

Ctrl + Alt + Del. Choose the third tab, which displays a graph. The green lines show your RAM usage. Maybe you should uninstall some unnecessary programs. They tend to eat up system resources without you knowing it. Also, you can try defragmenting your hard disk. Can speed up things a bit.

You can check using task manager as above all mentioned. If I am not wrong you are having just 58 MB of free RAM at that time.. You can read full specification of memory usage from http://www.xtremesystems.... Good Luck..

If you are using windows then try using a windows gadget which shows all usage information including ram usage and processor usage.....
