Can opener: Do you hate it?

I'm pissed off with CAN OPENERS! It seems they can only last a month. During the first weeks they are performing well, but after a month you can hardly open a can with it, so I end up using a knife. I tried different kinds, different brands. Can you suggest a GOOD can opener that CAN last atleast a year?

i used to hate can openers which seem to collapse after the 10th or so use. hehehe some lasted not quite a month. until we got one that is a keeper. i'm not sure about the brand but it's a heavy set of grip, white and thick. and then you just turn it and can opening is just a breeze. i'm not sure if we bought it here locally or in jakarta. hmmmn 2 years at the very least.

No, I'm not. We use the old type of can opener that is one-piece. When I'm at my friend's house, I find it hard to use their can opener, the one that you have to twist something....

Ah...Ours does not because it is even older than me. It was given to my parents as a wedding gift and it was kept nicely so it is still in good condition.

thats what we use. the one where you have to twist it. the one piece kind is different now. its metal is softer. it actually bends!!

I do too! I have gone through two can openers in the last three months or so. Not that open alot of cans but afew in a week or so. I got an expensive one with a well known brand and it didn't work very long. Then I bought one at the dollar store and it has worked best. But, you do have to be sure to have the two little set of teeth set right so it really bites down on the can or it won't work.

Do you think that will last a year?

Same with our household; we bought a can opener only to end up using a baby knife instead. We were not get used in using a can opener but I can suggest you a good one, maybe you can try Sunnex brand of can opener.

Tried that too, the cheap kind. One month.

I found that the one with the rubber handle works better than the kind that is all metal so you may want to try that kind or invest in an electric can opener. They aren't that expensive usually under twenty dollars. I have coordination problems and the twisting kind is hard for me to do sometimes. Thats why I love my electric can opener.

Tried rubber handles too. They last a bit longer than the all metal. About the electric can opener, I think it's too big and too hard to clean. Maybe if I do use can openers everyday I might just buy those.

I thought we were the only one in myLot neighborhood that has can openers that doesn't serve well. So we were not alone. I always ask my wife to buy a better one but then after a while, the poor can opener doesn't function anymore. I even argued one time that she is buying a low quality and cheap one. Now I know that even the best in town won't last long. Perhaps the electric one might be better?

Yeah I know what you mean, the can openeers just don't seem to last long anymore. I can't suggest a brand sorry, but I thought I'd say maybe a knife would just be easier, after all a knife my dull but you can always sharpen it, a can opener you buy and it breaks, then it's in the trash.

Hi, damned_dle. The can opener that my husband bought is acting up too. It will not cut all of the way like it used to. And it is not rusted at all. The only thing that I can suggest to you is to get an expensive can opener that will cut so much better then.

Our can opener at home is broken. I actually dont hate using it cause its safer than using a knife though I consider myself an expert in using a knife when opening a can. I am not going to recommend a brand because even the most expensive one will not last very long.

Can openers are very useful but in some instances where there is unlimited use of it due to defective part, then you really venture into knife making it a bit hazardous to use when opening canned goods.
