I just discovered how to get the perfect stir fry! I can get a whole serving of veggies in plus use up a few leftovers! I buy the cheaper veggies. You know, like carrots and cabbage. Then whatever else is on sale. This week, not much so I got a small package of broccoli and cauliflower for two bucks. I put some onion and a small piece or two of pepper in the olive oil, then cut up the other veggies in the pan. I add a tiny bit of salt and some basil! This makes a perfect cheap stir fry that is delicious! Today I added about a half of cup of brown rice that I had left over from the other night! Man, it is good!!! you got any surprisingly cheap recipes that turn out so good?

Oh - stir fries are great . . . and you can use up whatever veggie you have on hand too - even if it's just a couple of veggies. Toss in some chicken, beef or pork too. With rice (I need my rice), it makes it ever so complete! I got this recipe many years ago - not so surprising - but you just take hot cooked noodles, melt in some butter, add garlic powder, parmesean cheese (just the canned stuff), pepper and basil . . . simple but great pasta! Add some cooked veggies to it . . . maybe some chicken or shrimp . . . and it makes it fancier. Love those cheap but good (and quick) recipes!

Stir fry is really cheap and yummy too!! Try sweet peas and carrots, fried with a clove of garlic (chopped), a bit of soy sauce and some oyster sauce!! YUUMMY!! If you like green beans, fry it with a clove of garlic (chopped), again with a bit of soy sauce and some oyster sauce.. Really good.. If you want it to be nicer, once you're done frying it, turn the heat out, and add some sesame oil to it, it'll smell sooo good and yummy at the same time.. You can also have it with vermicelli, it's a nice change as well! :)

Hi, macdingolinger. This sounds very yummy. I am sure that this was a tasty treat! I love mixing oil, garlic and herb powder and ketchup into sausages. This makes a great gravy. I will pour the gravy over white rice. It is so good! I know that using many veggies can make a great stir fry. Making our own is just as delicious as the stir fry that is in the package. Enjoy your stir fry!

i don't do a lot of gravies. Actually after I got divorced I swore I'd never make gravy again! Maybe I should reconsider!

Cheap quick meals are my specialty after raising 5 children on a shoestring. I've learned to make food taste great with just a dash or two of some herb added to whatever I have in the fridge or pantry. As for recipes. . .I haven't used on in so long I don't have any to share. I just use whatever's handy and/or cheap!

Oh I remember those days! But my kids are grown now. It's me and my son who I am taking care of after his accident. That means I can't work outside the home as all my time is spent on him and he has to have total assistance at this point... so there are days I cannot get out (usually only get out once a week) so I run out of stuff... so I am in the same boat.

Hi Mac! I like stir fry vegetable too. At home we usually have four or more kind vegetables. We usually stir fry it with many combination and often combined with coped or small sliced meat or seafood. You can make many combination of vegetables and not feel bored about.
