Telling a lie is a sin. Now, would you tell a lie to save someone?

We grew up in a society where it is said that telling a lie is not right. But what if someone badly needs your help and all you have to do is to tell a lie to save him/her. What would you do?

It's kind of silly to think that all bad things are indeed a sinful act. Perhaps "Doing a little evil for greater good" would remind everyone of something. Sometimes, doing a little sin like lying, would safe someone life. Example, just like in a war, if you captured by the enemies and being interrogated, will you tell your nations secret to the enemy, the secret that vital for your nation which if revealed will destroy the nation you stand for. If you spill out the secret, your nation will be ruin and once someone of your nation know it's your doing of telling the enemies of the secret, would your life be better or be worst. Anyway, telling a little lie for someone safety, I think it's excusable. It's for a good sake and not as for take advantage in proceeding for evil needs.

Yes,I think it is very silly to think about all issues in a consistent and unchangeable thinking pattern. We should rise to the occasion.

I would absolutely tell the lie. God would hate me more if I let them get hurt. It would matter to god more that I helped someone and my lie wouldn't seem like such a terreble thing.

If we ever had a chance to save someone, but finally we didnt' do that,I think god will hate me more compared with sin of telling a lie.

Telling a lie was never a sin. There are some proof of this at many places. Though the religious scripts prescribe that Telling a Lie is a vice, yet there are glimpses of lies being told across the globe and across time. The people only come to know that you are lied only when you are caught otherwise they believe that what you told is true. If a lie can save anyone in something (that I am confident of is not a crime) then I will prefer to lie and save that someone. I would not lie to save someone who committed a murder right in front of my eyes. I have to use my conscience and brains to decide whether to lie or not.

Ofcourse it depends on the context. If I'm lying in a selfish way then it is a 'sin' and is wrong. If I was lying to save someone's life or even to not hurt their feelings I would most likely lie for their sake not for my own. By the way I am agnostic and not religious so when I mean 'sin' I mean something that is morally wrong and I don't need religion to tell me what is right or wrong ;)

I will tell the lie to save people. We should judge the situation. If we try to cheat others through telling a lie,it is absolutely a sin. Thus we can get some profits ourselves and it is very immoral. But if our original motivation is good and trying to help or even save others, then I will do it without hesitation.

I wouldn't tell a big lie which misleads the other person. But if the person is close to me i wouldn't mind telling a white lie to make him come out of a difficult situation.I mean like what are friends for if we can't save them in their difficulty. But if my friend is committing an unpardonable act i would take him to the side and explain the consequences of his action.

Basically speaking telling a lie is a sin. I must say that ALL OF US around the world are committing this kind of sin whether that person is nice, good, bad, criminal, or even the person who values the word of God have already committed this kind of sin it can be big deal or not a fuss at all. But we are only humans that we have to be practical for some instances, like for example the holdaper told you that he saw a big amount inside your pocket are you going to tell the truth? Well it is a natural instinct that we won't tell the truth to save ourselves. Another example if someone asked you about privacies or dark secret and you don't want to reveal it that is another example of telling a lie as well. Base on your example I actually did that already by telling a lie to save my friend. It did not matter to me if I committed a sin already, because there are some instances that telling the truth is actually being useless already especially if the person is narrow minded.

Why they are called white lies is beyond me but stretching the truth to save someone I believe it is okay. It is the malice lies I totally do not agree with.
