Another morning...

...another bucket of tea in the hopes that I'll be able to keep my eyes open until lunchtime! How do you start your day? So many of us just fall out of bed and into our day I think. I'm definitely guilty of this. I'd really like it if I could find a better way to motivate and energize myself at the start of the day. Something to make me look forward to attacking the tasks ahead, rather than cursing them for want of hiding back under the duvet again. Does anyone have any advice or commiserations?

Although I consider myself a morning person, I think I am also guilty of just falling into my day. I also sleep late, so the rest of day is also filled of a lot of yawnings and catching myself falling asleep at inappropriate times, e.g. driving, in meetings, etc. Diet coke is primary source of caffeine, so I drink tons of it during the day. This year, I've also consciously decided to drink coffee. The caffeine in the diet coke is not that strong anymore.

If I have something to do really early, I drink coffee, if not, it's tea when I get up because it's a little less harsh. I'm guilty of living day to day on caffeine too though. I've got a can of coke in front of me right now again!

There's nothing like a good brew is there? At the moment the company Twinings has a limited edition tea called Rose Garden which is really lovely. I couldn't drink tea before bed. I think I'm quite susceptible to caffeine and it would keep me up all night!

For me, I make sure I get my regular number of hours of sleep so that when I wake up in the morning, I won't feel like I need to stay in bed some more. As for getting motivated, it helps if you love what you'll be doing throughout the day. Unfortunately, a lot of us have jobs that we don't really love. I like my job but I don't really love it. So what I do is I set a goal that I will be working toward. Like now, I am saving up for an international trip with my family on December. I have thought about all the good things that I want to happen in that trip and I keep that in mind when I don't feel like going to work. I make my job a means to an end. At least I have a reason to get up and go to work. You can also make it a short-term goal. Like maybe plan to have something you've been craving for for dinner, or even lunch. That way, you'd want to get the day over with fast. Hehe! Great day to you!

I think being goal focussed is a very good strategy. There's always something you can try and focus on getting done. It's a matter of willpower and perception.
