do you block people that have msgs that pop up in your YM?

i have my yahoo messenger account. every time i log in i see these messages that come from people i don't know. some messages are rude and the others are some kind of blunt and out of disrespect. what i do is that i block them but they still continue to pop up the next day. i can i get rid of them too? do you block people that have msgs that pop up in your YM?
