It is always nice to buy souvenirs when traveling to places near and far. They bring back all the beautiful memories of the wonderful places. I have a collection of souvenirs that I bought when I traveled to countries in different parts of the world. My favorite items are handicrafts and paintings. What kind of souvenirs do you buy when you travel to places ?

Hiya greenline, Mainly anything which I like. Seashell Ornaments are my favourites and things that have the name of the Village on it with a Photo maybe or a map. I don´t know anything that is nice and not very big either. I bought my Mom once a Parrot made up of real Seashells and it was stuck on a varnished piece of wood to be able to hang on the wall and it lasted years I bought it in Benidorm Spain. It was one of the things I would have liked to have been able to keep from my Mom´s House but I could´nt. Nevertheless it was a beautiful thing to look at and very easy to keep clean too. I also love Flamenco Dolls too not too big though. Although at the moment I don´t have any of either.

Seashells ! They must be pretty unique, I would assume. Yes, some countries sell seashells. I have seen some of the visitors buying them at some of the places.

Hiya greenline, At the moment I am not buying any kind of Ornaments as I have a young Dog and most things end up on the Floor so its not a good time to think of Seashell ornaments although there are some very lovely ones around and especially now that we are going into the Tourist Season. Well I think every Country has some very nice Seashells its just a question of looking for them in the right places besides the Shops.xxx

We buy all kinds of things, t-shirts if they are a good quality shirt, post cards, glasses to drink from, books, just anything that strikes our fancy to get. I have bought my daughter a sterling silver card holder that had a mirror on one side. It was gorgeous and I knew that she would love it. I've bought jewelry for everyone in the family including my husband and myself, and all of the children and grandchildren. I had a beautiful amulet made for my husband. I got 24 karat rings and bracelets for everyone. This is all I can think of for now.

I bought rings for everyone, even the babies. They are 24kt. gold and yes I got bracelets too. The amulet I had made for my husband is a prayer shield with two "feather's" hanging from it. It is beautiful. I had a wonderful opportunity to get lots of things for the whole family and some friends too. I always came back with an extra bag or two, lol.

There are tons of merchandise to buy when on a trip and honestly I'm not a big fan of them and I also am not in the habit of purchasing trinkets for people back home to give as coming home presents. But I like food, especially if it is a local delicacy or product that I can never buy when I go back to the city. That I give away.

Yes, I agree with you. Food products are good gifts too, since they are unique to the countries and cultures. I am sure people back home appreciate such home coming presents !

I collect matchbooks from places that I go, like restaurants, bars, etc. I also collect patches and have over 150 from various places. I have a few of them sewn on oa jacket, but eventually they will be part of a quilt.

After cluttering my place with countless souvenirs from all over the globe I have now settle down to only buying chocolates. To maintain these souvenirs is time consuming and after a while one loses interest too.

Believe it or not , the best trip I went on I just brought a magnet . I didn't take pictures. It was my trip to New Orleans. I still picture what I saw but I didn't take any pictures, lol! When I went to Montreal,I got a Quebec flag and a Montreal Sweat shirt. The best souvenir is a postcard. It has the Pefect picture and it is easy to carry and keep.

Yes it is really nice to have some souvenirs for places that we have traveled. Something that will remind us of the places we have been. In my case, I usually buy a t-shirt for those place that I have been. My wife usually place them in plastic and put them on display in a special area of our house. She post pictures of our family travel as well as other items that show that we have visited the place. Sometimes, we just sit around and look at how many place we have visited already.

I don't buy anything in particular. It just depends on what I run across that is special to me at the time. It might be a picture or even a keychain. When I went to Japan, I bought my girls a teacup set. I bought some necklaces too. I got some of those paper lamps in different colors. I wanted a bansai tree but I couldn't figure out how I would get it back safely..lol.

Hi! When we travel to place I always buy a key chain, shirt and a photo frame. That way, our best picture is placed in that photo frame to remember our wonderful trip. Have a good day!

I will usually go to some souvenir shop to buy souvernirs for my friends. Therefore, the souvernirs I buy are usually something very special about the place that I have visited and can represent it. Therefore, they are usually handicrafts or traditional foods which can show the culture of that place to my friends.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Handicrafts certainly show the culture of the people of the countries. They are always so unique and so artistic in many ways too.

I wish I could buy stuff when I travel. Most of the time I am traveling with my husband and he avoids gift shops like the plague and gets annoyed if I try to go in to them. The only time he will let me go in to a gift shop it is if we are somewhere away from the kids, then we will get the kids something, but we almost always have the kids with us. He does like local foods however, so we might get some of that. On our last vacation we did buy some peppers and some seasoning spices, but that was the only thing that we really bought besides our food that we consumed while on vacation.

I understand what you are saying. Yes, people have different preferences when visiting new places. Foods of other countries can be very delicious and addictive too. Thank you for your response.

I normally don't get anything when I go on vacation, but this time I did. It wasn't anything expensive, or anything really reminding me of the vacation, but something important to my friend and I. I was in California on the beach and we both like sharks so I got these really pretty shark pendant necklaces that were originally five dollars each, but they were on sale for 2.50 each. :] Sadly, though, she lives in North Carolina, which is far from where I live, and unfortunately I think her necklace got lost in the mail. D: Oh well, I still have mine and I love it dearly.

Hi greenline! How is my favorite "travellin' man? As you know, I have travelled very little in my life. Certainly, not a pro like you!lol I have been to Canada quite a few times and collected many wonderful souveniers from there which I truly treasure! I have a copper etching of a log cabin that is one of my favorites and a vase made out of sandstone! I have been to some of the other states like Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and of course, Florida, but don't have much to show for those trips! They were all done many years ago when I was young.
