Would you go to your high school reunion if you gained a lot of weight?

I graduated 37 years ago. I have been to countless reunions over the years. But since our last reunion I have gained a lot of weight. We have a reunion scheduled for the end of August. I really don't want to go because I don't want everyone to see how much I have changed. Would you miss your reunion if you gained a lot of weight? Or should I stop worrying about it and just go?

I will stop worrying and just go. I will work on myself though, but staying back will make me worry more and maybe eat more. I cant give anything to catch up with old friends. These school mates may still see me somewhere else.

Thanks for your advice. It is true that I might run into my school mates anywhere, so I might as well go ahead and attend the reunion.

Hi Toofancy Why should I miss any reunions because I just gained weight? No way, I will attend and see my friends and classmates, of course, there will be a lot of changes in them too. Don't worry about your weight, the important thing is you can connect with them.

Everybody seems to think the same way. Thanks for the response and the encouragement. I guess I am being silly about it. My friends are what should be important...not how I look. Thanks again.

I've not been to a reunion since I graduated and missed my 30th reunion because it came about the same time my first grandchild was scheduled to arrive. I don't think there's anything that would stop me from the next one...funny...ten years ago we didn't have Facebook and Myspace to connect with everyone...now I'd connect with a lot of them even if I just went back home for vacation. Don't sweat the weight gain...enjoy the time with your old friends!

Thanks for responding. I agree about Facebook and Myspace. I am in touch with so many of my old friends that way. I appreciate your encouragement!

I guess you are more than 50 years old. So,maybe, your schoolmates would not mind your apearance at all at that age. If you want to see someone who is your best friend in school time, then, Just Do It. If you don't know what are you going to do in the reunion, you'd better not attend it. A last, I would remind you:Keeping fit is more important for yourself than for others. Best wishes.

Yes, I am now 54 years old, so I guess it is time for my looks to start changing. The weight gain is due to health reasons, and side effects of medication. I understand that keeping fit is more important for me than for others, and I do try. But with my health issues, etc, it is an uphill battle. On the upside, however, I have lost 14 pounds this summer. Thanks for your response.

If I were you... Id go to my reunion! You have just as much right to be there as anyone else and what other people think shouldnt influence how you feel about yourself! It isnt always about peoples looks. Hey who knows maybe everyone else will have gained some wieght to and if you just dont show up you'll never know and you may miss one hell of a time and end up regretting it for the rest of forever. Id take the chance and go... Get all made up and project absolute radiance and happiness and i doubt anyone will notice a dew extra pounds all theyll be able to focus on is this beautiful person with sauch confidance and grace! :) If you decide to go i hope you have fun and be the belle of the ball!! :D
