Friends, today while responding to discussions I marked one thing, the avatar was picture of a cute woman. I just checked the profile, I found it to be that of a male. Well there may not be anything wrong or violation of rules. But I think it is more dignified if we put our real picture or some symbol if we don’t want to share real picture. He could have put some male picture or some symbol. Have you observed this, how you feel? Please share Professor

Hi Professor, I have done the same thing. I just couldn't imagine having a female as my avatar, I think it's weird. Oh, maby it's gis wife or girl friend. That, I could understand. Mike.

As a new member here in mylot I don't want to put my picture maybe after 1 month, I think it's okay even if we put whatever pictures or symbols we wanted.

A male putting up a female picture does not sound alright to me. He might think that a women picture can magnetize the crowd. It is absurd! What is wrong of telling the world the real gender as I too would like to see handsome picture of the writer or something that is impressive enough to tell the readers that he is a HE and not in disguise.

Oh, it is really unnecessary to lay too much emphasis on our acatars. On myLot, it is obvious that you can add various types of pictures as your acatars, just following your tastes and some relevant laws. Through starting an interesting discussion or respond others' discussions, we are enjoying a wonderful time because we can communicate with friends from different countries. There are still many things you can pay attention to, so, don't keep this tiny thing in mind all the time.

It's just a picture and that does not stand for anything. All of us have our favourites and we just like to share it around, be seen to the world. After all, we are not applying for jobs or submitting resume etc, so why the need for a real photo of us? If we were to have something symbolic relating to our gender, all the more it's apporiate to use the picture of cute or pretty woman as our avatar. The reason is simple, majority of men, likes women!

this is a new generation style to insert various other pictures instead of the real pictures .. the respondants just wanted to hide their originality form others or to attract the person towards them.some of them make it as a passion.

hi professor I get a little upset as its tought to have to rewrite a discussion as you thought you were talking to a man and it turns out to be a woman like myself, or vice versa. some times it does make you have to c change some of your thoughts to suit the gender of the other person. I think it wou ld be better for guys to use male pictures and women to use feminine pictures of themselves. I do not have a camera so I use my art work for my avatar instead. I give my gender on my profile as I want people to know I am not a guy at all. hatley is merely my last name.

Hi Professor. I don't really think that it should matter what picture we put on here but I think that if it is a males profile he should at least put something on his avatar other then a womans picture. But maybe it is his girlfriend or wife's picture and he is proud of that woman. It would bother me if I seen a picture of a person on here and checked the profile and seen it wasn't what the person was portraying especially if they were supposed to be a woman/man and it turned out to be a man/woman.

Well as for me I am a female, but I have a anime female character, but I don't know it doesn't really bother me when a male on here has a female picture it doesn't really get to me because I think that everyone should pick the avatar that is to their most liking. Just because it's their avatar it might not be them they just want it there so that they can look at it too.

This is not bad. Imagine when they put "male" on the profile, but they told in discussions that they are female. Or vice versa. They do not want to make real friends and they have ulterior motives, I think.

Hi, Professor2010! My avstar is not my real photo. I put a picture of my favorite game instead of my photo due to privacy consideration. I don't like the males who put a female picture as avstar, and I don't know what they are thinking. Actually I have seen many men appearing like a girl in forums. We call them hermaphrodite in Chinese forums. Few of them are really with wicked purpose to cheat girls. Also there were some reports on careless girls who rose to the bait and was robbed or raped.

I personally life animated avatars as it gives me a moment to reflect on something cute. It is a matter of preference a person choose to use as their profile, but I am like you where I have see plenty of nice female pictures and then look at the profile and see it is a male. Funny thing about it also is that I saw this disucssion where a member has a female profile picture where someone responds to the responder as a she, which is a total honest and I do not want to call it a mistake, as how many times do we really go to a profile before we apply our comment. Anyways the male member gets all irate and says I am not a a gal I am a male. Oh okay so why the female picture then, ya got me. So what I always do is never refer to anyone as he or she unless I am absolutely sure as people get defensive, although I clearly do not understand why.

Hello. :] My icon is not of me, I am a girl with curly brown hair and the person in my icon obviously has very blonde straight hair! I put this as my icon though, because I made it and colored it and everything and I was proud of the way that it had turned out. This isn't because of the person looking like me in any way at all! Does this mean that people with cats instead of dogs can not put a dog as their icon? :] Just curious. XD

I have seen the profiles of some of the male members who use female avatars. I tend to assume that the member is female when the avatar is a picture of a woman, so I have been pretty surpriced sometimes when I discovered that the person behind the profile was actually a man I guess we have to look at the profile if we want to know the gender of one of the members, if we only look at the avatar we might get the wrong impression.

dear professor, i use to have a cute tigerface as my avatar. then i changed it into my picture and i gained lots of friends after that. i guess it is much better to place one's own picture. that way, friends from all over the world would imagine a face.. have a nice day. ann
