What are people's opinions on Manual cars vs. Automatics? Pro's cons?

Hi everyone!!! I have fallen into a problem situation where it looks like I'm needing a new car. My poor 1996 ford explorer seems like its barely gimping along and I need a new car for school and what not so I dont have issue's then. Me and my dad where looking at some cars (cus there cheaper) my spending limit is 2000$ because Im poor :/. Now the 2 we are looking at are Manuals which I have never driven before but would like to learn. However I feel like I wont b able to multi-task as much which I know I shouldn't. However would it still b easy to look through my ipod songs or pick up a phone call?....what do you like better about each? Thanks!!

I don't know for sure but I have driven both types through the years. My son in law who knows a good deal about cars tells me that if you don't drive a manual correctly that you can have more problems with it than an automatic, however I tend to believe that at least with a manual it costs you far less in repair bills, at least in my experience.

Yea, my dad know's a good deal about cars as well and I brought up the concern to him about wouldn't it be easy to mess it up and he said that you could burn out the clutch but there cheaper to fix, better on gas, and more fun which is a plus i geuss.
