Has the internet taken over your social life?

Since social networking is now available in the internet and most people are online anyway, you end up getting stuck in front of your computer - to play games or chat with people and sometimes read books too. How often do you detach yourself from the cyber world? I think I am beginning to be soooo engrossed with the web that I can stay in front of the computer most of the time (translation: almost all the time). This is terrible or not?

Yeah, someone just had to invent social networking... It takes very great efforts to detach myself from the internet now. I got all my texting on my computer now and for free. I am either hanging out with friends, reading a book, or stuck inside the computer.

It is very true that when everything you need to do - text, surf and watch are all in the same place - why do you need to turn it off right? It's a good thing that you are able to spend time with your friends still :) and read a good book :) I do the same though now, I have a lot of e-books ;)

If you don't spend like 24 hours on the computer that's cool, but people who do stay on the computer like that have no life :( sorry to say, I rather be with a girl than the internet lol xD

This is terrible and I know how you feel 'cause I am in the same situation. i detach myself from the computer rarely and I am not happy that way, but it's so hard to change that. I detach myself when my brother comes on the computer. He only checks his facebook for 20 minutes then gives the computer back to me. I really should stop doing that, but it's so damn hard!!! I hate it!

Now that is bad... you should try to at least have a day or half a day that you are not infront of the computer. You need to have a life as well :) Akatsuki --- so you don't stay infront of the computer? because you have a girlfriend? :p

Oh dear you mean like face-book and others like it ? I know a lot of people who tell there every move of the day ,On these sites. That's just flat out crazy,I do like playing games though. I try not to spend more than a hour for everything.Never fear you will soon tire of it when you notice nothing is getting done. Then you can balance it out.

yeap. am talking about facebook - I do like playing the games actually which is the reason why I stay in it but the other thing also is because my family posts their pictures (especially my cute niece) and I just cannot get enough of the pics! :) you are right. There are times when I do not feel being online at all. :) Let's see how things go :)

I can understand your thinking. It's the same with me. My social life is a big mess. The reason i go out is only the store every day. Nothing more. It's good that the friends of my boyfriend come home really often. If it wasn't that way, we would chat all the time. It became that way, because we started to earn online. You know, it's slowly process and it takes time... At the same time, if you don't have even a cent in your wallet, you can go out only for walk, nothing more ... I really miss our social life, but now, without car, just working all the time ... It's not good, at all. Once i had day without my computer and i felt great. But if we stay at home all the time, we don't have what else to do. And i also think we deeply want to have that social life, which ended months ago.

It is very true Suggar. With the current state of our finances, we also try our best not to go out because we want to save money as we are now planning to go home. I do miss the time when we will just go out and enjoy dinner then watch a movie but now, we have to decide which should we go for. I hope these tough times will come to an end and we can again enjoy the things we do :)

I don't think it is a terrible thing for us to stay in front of the computer most of the time, even a whole day. On the contrary, if we can spend more time on computer, I think it is a improvement of our society. The Internet has become a vital part of our daily life. Apart from using it work effectively, we can also use it to communicate with friends and family effectively. Before the popularity of social networking and the Internet, we had to keep in touch with others with cellphones. But now, the Internet provides another whole new way to communicate with others.

The main reason I am in front of the computer is because this is my only 'cheap' communication with my family back home. We can chat via Skype or Yahoo and then we get to be updated with photos through Facebook :) It is definitely a big improvement and I have to admit that if this is taken away from us, I bet it will be very difficult to cope with homesickness and all that 'bad' feeling you have when you are far away from home.

This makes me think of the more beautiful old days where friends would gather up each evening and have fun outside, go somewhere, gossip and have a quality time with each other. Now, everything has become online, some of my friends get busy chatting up with some girl, and it becomes their daily habbit. The weirdest thing is that now people are able to find their soulmates on the internet. It is convenient to find people of your match over the internet i agree but i think it is more romantic to meet someone in person and then talk more and get closer to each other. It is funny to see how people manage to close to someone with even meeting them, just by talking on phone after they share their phone number after a few days of chatting over the internet. Personally, i don't find this interesting. I would rather want to meet someone physically and then get to know them better, i mean getting introduced face to face itself and not over the internet. Most best friends turn out to become your girlfriend/boyfriend who knows. It's been an year i met my girl and i liked the time i met her first and it was really nice. We got to know more about each other. I happen to be her senior and i met her when she joined my college and it has been good from then on. Now we are yet to see what is going to happen in the near future.Anyways, now is the time for us to study so we don't think much about each other. We kept everything for the future and once we get settled. I agree internet takes a part of our social lives. It is best if we are able to recognize this problem and try to avoid it. The ones who expect from us will find it weird if we get glued to the computer like this. We can't get away because now internet is an important part of our lives but we should be control of what we do, always.

Yeah that is pretty terrible sorry to say :( I'm ableto detach myself from the computer anytime I'm glad to say :D I don't find the internet as interesting as I use to think it was :T When it comes to social networkig too I do that mostly on my cell phone rather than the internet. The only scenarios I find myself obsessed to the computer is when I'm engaged to something very addictive and interesting, also when I'm in the middle of an conversation with somebody. If I were you I would try sending less time on the computer, you can also damage your eyes when you spend to much time infront of computer screen. The best thing to do is spend less time on the internet, life is short, don't waste it all on the internet

I use the internet when I'm working or not. I earn extra money online, chat with my friends, downloading, read articles and update myself on whats happening around. But I don't sit in front of the computer for almost 24 hours like other people do. I see to it that I still have time to do stuffs which do not involve the internet, and sometimes I don't use the internet during weekends except when it's really needed. I spend my weekend with my family and friends in the real world. And hey! Its more fun when its not in the cyber world.

Always, but I manage my time in using the internet. Using your computer 12hours or more than 12 hours is not good in your health so I can say that this is terrible.
